presiding and the following councilmen present: Hubert Darby, Chas. Riggins4 Bill
Christian, Roy Swain, W. H.. Stem and Mrs. Doyle White.
Others present were Dir. of Public Works Gann and Chief Cornell.
Minutes of previous meetings were read and approved.
Councilman Stem reported the recent rains have helped the water situation but
with the return of hot weather the use of water is very large again. The Water Com-
mittee asked that all persons conserve water and do
ar inutside watering between th

ing water.
It was moved by Councilman Stem, seconded by Councilman Swain, to discontinue
the 7:00 o'clock A. M. regular meeting of the Council. Motion carried unanimously.
Councilmen Darby, Christian and Riggins had nothing to report.
Councilman Swain reported Jack Farrar has asked that a street be opened in the
Denman Addition which will require a bridge and possibly some metal horns. The
project could be quite expensive. After discussion, it was moved by Councilman
Swain, seconded by Councilwoman White, to open the street in the Denman Addition
and to build a low -water bridge, also to look into the building of a permanent
bridge at a later date. Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Councilman Swain, seconded by Councilman Stem, to pave the
parking lot near the High School, the school to pay the actual cost of the paving.
Motion carried unanimously.
Councilman Swain reported Mr. Moorhead would not give the land to extend West
Tarleton Street.
Councilwoman White,reporting for the Fire Committee, stated the committee would
like to try and secure a lot in the west part of the City for a future fire station.
The Council agreed to contact Tar.leton State College and try to secure a site at the
corner of West Frey Street and Harbin Drive, or some other suitable location in the
west part of the City.
Messrs. Bradshaw, Boyd and Young, representing East Side Church of Christ, ap-
peared before the Council stating that in a recent meeting of the church board it
was agreed to accept $1000.00 for the land which is needed for right -of -way. The
Council explained to the group that the Highway Department had appraised thepland
at $510.00 and would only pay half of this amount, y has
additional $250.00 but could not pay any more. If the amount offered is not ac-
ceptable to the church, then condemnation proceedings would be filed very soon.
The group asked that the City wait until another meeting can be held with the church,
board (this meeting to be held Wednesday night of this week).
The Director of Finance discussed the proposed budget for the coming year.
After discussion, it was moved by Councilman Swain, seconded by Councilman Riggins,

NOTICE
The Annual Budget of the City of Stephenville, Texas, has been prepared and
filed with the City Secretary for approval by the City Council. This is to notify
that the City Council will meet on the 1st day of September, 1964, at the City Hall
in the City of Stephenville, Texas, at 7:00 o'clock P. M., to hear any and all pro-
tests why such budget shall not be accepted and approved.
It was moved by Councilman Christian, seconded by Councilman Riggins, to transfer

the necessary funds. Motion carried unanimously.
Councilman Swain reported the Highway Department has been contacted about the
widening of West Washington Street in the 200 block. The Highway Department is
checking into this and may help with the project.
Upon Motion and second, the Council stood adjourned.
