The City Council met in called session on this date with Mayor Cook presiding
and the following councilmen present: Hubert Darby, Mrs. Fred McCleskey, E. Lee
Orbison, Chas. Riggins, Roy Swaim, Bill Christian, W. H. Stem and Mrs. Doyle White.
Councilman Stem reported the Water Committee had met and would like to recommend
to the Council that an irrigation type well be drilled on the City Airport property.
The committee is recommending this due to the fact that water usage has already be-
come heavy and based on last year's pumping records, there could be a shortage if
it continues to be dry. Also the proposed well field could not possibly be ready
until late summer, which in the opinion of the committee would be too late. The
committees' proposal is to move approximately 3000 feet from present airport well
and,develop a well which could be pumped into the sand trap at the airport well,
then into the system. The pipeline to be laid by the water department employees.
It was moved by Councilman Orbison, seconded by Councilman Christian, to enter
into a contract with Jones Drilling Company to drill a.well on City Airport property.
This to be a flexible type of contract in order that some things may be added if
necessary. Motion carried unanimously.
Councilman Christian reported there had been only one application for "Park
Director. This person only made the statement that he was interested in the job.
It was agreed to make the application forms available to interested persons.
Councilman Christian also reported there is some misunderstanding of the powers
and duties of the Parks & Recreation Board. It was agreed that each member of this
board will be furnished a copy of the City Ordinance which outlines the powers and
duties of the board.
Upon motion and second, the Council stood adjoumned
subject to the Mayor's call.
