The City Council met in called meeting on this date with Mayor Evans presiding and the following councilmen present: Virgil Dickerson, I. D. The only way the City can sell the land is to adver- tise for bids. A group of rest home owners from the City, and surrounding areas, appeared be- fore the Council stating they have adequate rest home facilities and asked the Council 124 not to allow this new home to be built in the City. It was explained to this group that the Council could not stop anyone from building a business in the City. After discussion, it was moved by Councilman Dickerson, seconded by Council- man Stem, to advertise for bids on the part of the old dump ground between N. Cleveland and N. Garfield Streets. Bids to be opened at 5:00 o1clock P. M. on March 19f, 1963. Motion carried. The following bids were received for one car for the Police. Department: Herrin Motor Company, difference of -------------------- $1144.00 Jones Chevrolet Company, difference of--- - - - - -- - - - - -- 1295.00 It was moved by Councilman Dickerson, seconded by Councilman Graves, to accept the bid of Herrin Motor Company. Motion carried. It;,wss moved by Councilman Graves, seconded by Councilman Stem, to adopt an ordinance finding and declaring West Mason Street, in the City bf Stephenville, where same is shown on Kingts 1956 Map of Stephenville at Sheet 790 thereof, to run between blocks 110 and 105 in the City of Stephenville, and running from the inter- section of West Mason Street with the East line of North Race Avenue, has been aban- doned for street purposes, ordering same vacated for street purposes and authorizing Mayor Evans to execute a lease on such area shown to be occupied by said portion of West Mason Street to H. S. Osborne and setting out the terms and conditions of such lease. Motion carried (said ordinance being attached to and becoming a part of these minutes).
