July 30, 1962.
The City Council met in-called meeting on the above date with Mayor Evans presid-
ing and the following councilmen present: Virgil Dickerson, I. D. Reynolds, Wm. 0.
Croft, Mark Geeslin, Raymond Anderson, Albert Graves, W. H. Stem and narlan Huey.
Mayor Evans reported the purpose of this meeting was to hear.a report of the recent
survey made by the City regarding low -rent housing units.
Messrs. Jerome and Parker, of the Public Housing Administration, appeared before
the Council 4nd. made a detailed .report of the recent survey made by the City. It was
pointed out that the City has a very high percent of elderly people and a high percent
of these elderly people own their homes. Mr. Jerome recommended, as a result of this
survey, the City could get 30 or 40 single housing units for elderly persons and 8 or
10 units for younger persons.
A group of local citizens appeared before the Council and discussed this in detail.
It was moved by Councilman Graves, seconded by Councilman Dickerson, that this be
put to a vote of the people. The motion was not voted upon.
After further discussion, it was agreed that the Housing Committee and the Council
study this more before final action was taken.
