The City Council met in called meeting on this date with Mayor Evans presid- ing and the following Councilmen present: Virgil Dickerson, I. D. Reynolds, Wm. 0. Croft, Albert Graves, Raymond Anderson, Scott D. Reed and W. H. Stem. The Mayor explained the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the problems of the City Sewage Plant. Mayor Evans stated there has been a detailed study made by the State Health Department, with Mr. Goff as head of this study. - Mr. Goff stated that the sewage plant is designed to handle sewage of a City of 15,000 population, and that Stephenville has approximately 8,000 population. This study shows that from.time to time a discoloring of the contents of the sewer plant is noticed. This group has contacted local industries who contribute great amounts of sewage and have noted the following results: The Cheese Plant dumps whey into the sewer and according to the figures, the amount of whey being put into the sewer is equavalent to 11,000 population. There is one poultry processing plant which dumps blood and feathers into the sewer and the figures show this to be an equavalent of 1,100 population. Therefore, the results of this study show the sewage plant is being greatly overloaded and thin problem can be solved by a very expensive addition to the plant or eliminate such industrial waste from sewer system. After discussion, it was agreed that the poultry processing plant will dis- pose of the blood and other waste and not dump same into the sewer. It was agreed at this time for the City to use a water truck to haul off and dispose of the whey. There being no other business, the Council stood a ed subje, to the Mayor's call.
