HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-05-15 - Special City CouncilStephenville, Texas May 15, 1967 The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Arthur presiding and the following Council members present: Robert Herrin, Mrs. Doyle White, Garland Loudermilk, Charles Riggins, W. M. Irwin, Telefus Cawyer, Raymond Anderson and Mrs. Fred McCleskey. Mr. Rolla Johnson, representing Gulf States United Telephone Co.; appeared before the council stating that the rates for telephone service as proposed by the council on May 2, 1967 would produce an estimated increase in revenue of $33,600.00. The rates requested by the telephone company would produce an increase of $71,000.00 per year. Mr. Johnson asked the council to change the rates as forllows: RESIDENCE 4 party from $3.25 to $3.75 2 party from 4.00 to 5.00 1 party froml party from 5.00 to 6.25 BUSINESS 2 party from $7.75 to $9.00 1 party from 9.00 to 12.50 Other rates are agreeable with the Council and telephone Company. Mr. Johnson then read an ordinance which, if adopted, would set the rates as requested by the telephone company. Mayor asked if any council member would make a motion to adopt the ordinance. No motion was made. The Council then offered the following proposal for rates: - RESIDENCE 4 party -------- $3.75 2 party-- - - -- -- 4.75 1 party-- - - - - -- 5.75 BUSINESS 2 party -------- $9.00 1 party -------- 11.50 It was moved by Councilman Irwin, seconded by Councilman Herrin, to allow increase of rates as above. Motion carried. Mr. Johnson asked that the 1 party business be raised to $12.00 and the 1 party residence be raised to $6.00. It was moved by Councilman Riggins, seconded by Councilman Irwin that 1 party residenoe rate be $6.00. Motion carried. Mayor called for a motion to allow increase to $5.00 for 2 party residence, and an increase for 1 party business to $11.75. No such motion was made. It was then moved by Councilman Irwin, seconded by Councilwoman White to adopt an ordinance fixing and authorizing rates and charges for local telephone ser¢uce in the City of Stephenville, Texas and suthorizing the Gulf States United Telephone Co. to give effect thereto: Rates as follows: BUSINESS 1 part line -------------- $11.50 2 party W'ie------------- 9.00 Extension, handset- - - - - -- 1.75 82 1party line -- ----- ------ ---- -- --$6.00. 2 party line-------------- - - - - -- 4.75 4 party line -------------------- 3.75 Extension ; handset----- - - - - -- 1.00 Motion carried unanimously. Councilman Herrin reported that the radar equipment has been installed in the Police car, and asked the opinon of the council about § giving tickets for exceeding the speed limits. The council agreed that the police will issue warning tickets until the next meeting in June. It was moved by Councilman Loudermilk, seconded by Co6ncilwoman McCleskey to adopt; a resolution as follows: NOTICE TO BIDDERS Sealed proposals addressed to the Mayor and Councilman of the City of Stephenville, Texas will be receiv.ed.at the office of Rex. H. Cates, City Secretary untill 7:00 P. M. on June 6, 1967 for - furnishing and installing street - improvements as follows: contract A, contract B, and contract C. Motion carried unanimously. (Said resolution in full being attached and becoming a part of these minutes.) It was moved by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Riggins to grant raises effective immediately as follows: Danny Johnson, $400.00 per month, Chester Lowery $400.00 per monty, and J. E. Lookingbill $400.00 per month. Motion carried unanimously. There being no other business at this time the council Mayoras call. ATTEST: L2 adjourned subject the
