HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-04-26 - Special City CouncilStephenville, Texas April 26, 1967 The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Arthur presiding and the following council members present: Robert Herrin, Garland Loudermilk, W. M. Irwin, Telefus Cawyer, Raymogd4.Anderson, and Mrs. Fred McCleskey. Mayor brought up for discussion the City Park and recreation program. It was pointed out that Mrs. McCleskey it'-doing an outstanding job with the recreation program, but as the program grows there are a lot more problems. Recently there have been violations to city ordinances and have caused unnecess;a?rr trouble to the council members and city employees. It was suggested that a committee consisitng of Mayor, or Mayor Pro Tem, Chairman of Park Committee and Director of Finance, be responsible for granting right to operate any activities at the "park. It was moved by Councilman Irwin, seconded by Councilman Herrin, that Mayor, or Mayor Pro Tem. Chairman of Park Committee and Director of Finance ar1l serve as a committee to authorize future activities at the City Park, Motion carried Un- animously. F4l1awing bids received for airconditioning of Fire Department: Higginbothams Bros. & Co. 10 ton unit $29239.35 With guarantee that unit will do a satisfactory job. Cashon's 11 ton unit $39275.00 With guarantee that unit will do a satisfactory job. In checking it was found that a 10 ton unit would be furnished for $100.00 less with no guarantee that it would do a satisfactory job. Councilman Loudermilk excused himself from the Council meeting while bids were being considered. RZ It was moved by Councilman Irwin, seconded by Councilwoman.McCleskey to accept __:,._.,,the bid of Higginbotham Bros. & Co. for 10 ton airconditioning unit, with no guarantee wi it will do the job. Bid price of $2,139.35. Motion carried un- animously. Councilman Loudermilk returned to the sv meeting. The Council discussed new ceiling and insulation for the fire department. It was moved by Councilman Herrin, seconded by Councilwoman McCleskey to advertise for bids for new ceiling for fire department. Also bids for 3 inches, and 6 inches of insulation for:the ceiling. Motion carried unanimously., Members of merchants activity committee appeared before the council. Mr. Burgess, chairman of this committee, reported that they have just come from a meeting and the merchants have agreed to pay more for nightwatchman services if a competent man can be hired. It was reported that a man has been hired for the nightwatchman job, he is to start work May 1, 1967. Also discussed the merchants paying their respective dues to the Chamber of Commerce and_the "chamber paying the nightwatchman. This method of payment of dues was acceptable to the committee and City Council. Mayor reported that one other problem at the city park is the concessions. It has been reported that the concessions at little league and pony league have been given to an individual by the Jaycees. Mayor appointed the park committee, with councilman Loudermilk to serve during illness of Councilwoman White to get more information about the concessions and problems of the Baseball Commission and report buck to the Council.
