HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-06-10 - Special City CouncilStephenville, Texas June 10, 19(8 The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Arthur presiding and the following Cou.nc':l Members present: Robert Herrin, Charles Ricgi.ns, W. 11. Irwin, Telefus.B. Cawyer, and Mrs. Fred NcCleskey. The Mayor reported that while attending the Cenvention in El Paso the Committee took a vote on the proposed than,, -?e in Sales Tax; s;ch vote was in favor of the change. The Mayor and Councilman Riggins attended sessions on the proposed change in sales tax, and are convinced that the proposal is good and they now favor the change. i , µ a Councilman Irwin reported that the Street Department has a problem when trying to „get property owners to pave, curb, and gutter, in that there is always some who refuse to do this and this stops the improvement of many streets due to the fact t'-�.at a`few will not pay their part. The Street Department is working on a -tan that would require t'.?ose who refuse to pave to go along when the- maiority of property owners are willing to pay their part of improvements. Councilwoman McCleskey reported a'need for fans at Chamberlin School for use in the arts and crafts rooms. Also brought up for discussion was the use of the former iigg'- nbotham Building for Vie arts and crafts program. It was agrPod that the Parks and Recreation Department can use the Higluinbotham Building. It was mound by Councilman P:.mains ana seconded by Councilman Irwin to I ransfer money from the Continguent find to the Park Fund to pay for a cooling system fnr the i=;ginbo",am R 1d nm.
