HomeMy WebLinkAbout1968-04-30 - Special City Councile Stephenville, Texas April 30,1968 The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Arthur presiding and the following Council Members present: Bon Metsgar, Garlan Loudermilk, Charles Riggi.ns, W. M. Irwin, Telefus Cawyer, Raymond Anderson, and Mrs. Fred. McCleskey. The Council was presented a report of the honing Commission and Adjustment Board. `Phis report is the result of a hearing held on April 9, 1958. Property owners objected to a skating rink being built near their homes on East Road. The Board agreed by unanimous vote that the proposed use of this land will not innose particular handship on adjacent property owners, and that the Building Inspector is within his rights by granting a permit for the skating rink. It was moved by Councilman Riogins and seconded by Councilman Loudermilk to sus- tain the Zoning QorPmission and Adjustment Board in t ^eir recommendation. The motion carried unanimously. Mr. E. A. Blanchard appeared before the Council and recommended that Mr. T. C. #ouse be appointed a member of the Equalization Board for the year 1966. It was moved By Councilman Irwin and seconded by Councilwoman McCleskey to p)s appoint Mr. T. C. uouse a member of the Equalization Board. The motion carried unanimously. The Council expressed appreciation to the pest Equalization Boards for services, and a fine iob. Councilman Irwin reported that the Street Committe,Mayor, Director of Public Works, and City Secretary have looked at the buildings on the former 7iggin- botham Lumber Yard property and recommend that the main display and office building not be torn down, but all other buildings be removed,also that this not be 'done by city crews. It was moved by Councilman Irwin and seconded by Councilman Riggins to advertise for bids to remove the bii1ldings as described above. The motion carried unanimously. The motion carried iinanimously. The Council discussed the attending the convention for Mayors and Councilman in E1Paso. It was agreed that the City will nay expenses of those who attend. It was r, ported that the Jaycees set out trees on the pariK located in the north- west part of town, and asked the City creb1to water these trees. The City crew spent approximately 60 1iours in doing the watering. It was agreed to invite representatives of the Jaycees to the next Council meeting.
