HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970-05-27 - Special City CouncilStephenville, Texas May 27, 1970 The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Skipper presiding and the following council members present: Robert Herrin, Don Metsgar, Garland Loudermilk, Doug 'Smithey, Jack Curtis, Toby Stone, and Mrs. Fred McCleskey. It was moved by Councilman Stone, seconded by Councilman Smithey, that a portion A--of French street be closed and sold to G. K. Lewallen and R. A. Stanton for $50.00 each. Motion carried. (Said ordinance being attached to and becoming a part of these minutes.) The council discussed an unopened street known as Post Oak street and it was asked that the street be opened and kept clean or closed and sold to adjacent property owners. It was moved by Councilman Stone, seconded by Councilman Metsgar, that Post Oak street be closed between Chamberlin street and Lillian street and to sell the pro rata share to each property owner for $50.00 each. Motion carried. (Said ordinance being attached to and becoming a part of these minutes.). It was moved by Councilman Curtis, seconded by Councilman Loudermilk, that the City Planning Commission membership be increased to 24 members, and that 8 members be appointed each year. Motion carried unanimously. Mayor reported that the meeting was called to consider adopting a resolution reguarding low rent housing for the elderly. Mayor discussed the steps-that would be necessary to put into effect the low rent housing project. It was moved by Councilwoman McCleskey, seconded by Councilman Loudermilk, to adopt a resolution in connection with the low rent housing project for the elderly. Motion carried. (Said resolution being attached to and becoming a part of these minutes.) There being no other business at this time the council stood adjourned, subject to the Mayor's call. Mayor ATT I� City c:etary 1 ORDINANCE DECLARING THAT PORTION OF WEST POST OAK STREET RUNNING FROM THE EAST LINE OF NORTH LI7v N AVENUE TO THE WEST LINE OF NORTH CHAM- BERLIN AVENUE BETWEEN LOT 1 ON THE NORTH AND LOTS 7A AND 6 ON THE SOUTH OUT OF BLOCK 12 OF TARLETON HEIGHTS ADDITION IN THE CITY OF STEPHENVILLE TO HAVE BEEN ABANDONED AS A STREET, ORDERING SAME VACATED AND CLOSED AND FINDING THAT OPPORTUNITY HAS BEEN GIVEN FOR OPEN COMPETITION FOR THE PURCHASE OF SAID PROPERTY AND AUTHORIZING THE SALE THEREOF. BE IT ORDANINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF STEPHENVILLE: Section One That portion of West Post Oak Street which lies between the East line of North Lillian Avenue and the West line of South Fifth Ave- nue between Lot 1 on the North and Lot 7A and Lot 6 on the South in Block 12 of Tarleton Heights Addition in Stephenville, Texas as shown by King's 1956 Map of Stephenville at Page 705 thereof is hereby de- clared to have been abandoned for street purposes and said portion of West Post Oak Street is hereby ordered vacated and closed as a street. Section Two Residents of this area and others who might be interested having been contacted with reference to said portion of the street declared vacated and open competition having been given to purchase same subsequent to such vacation, it is hereby found that said land in the abandoned portion of said street is of a value of less than $1,000.00 and there has been offered for the Northerly 25 feet of the vacated area by JiM. Wells the sum of $50.00 and there has been offer- ed for the Southerly 25 feet of the Westerly 206 feet of said aban- doned street area by J.M. James the sum of $50.00, and there has been offered for the Easterly 150 feet of the Southerly 25 feet of said abandoned street area by Dean Jacobs, the sum of $50.00, these var- ious persons owning lots immediately adjacent to and which have bound- aries coinciding with the boundaries of the property which they have offered to purchase; and the offers made being the highest and best bids for the respective portions of said street and jointly for all of the portion of said street abandoned, the Mayor is hereby directed to execute quit claim deed to the respective portions to the purchasers named. Lewallen being Lot 5 -A according to revision of said Map, and these being the highest and best bids for the respective portions of said street and jointly for all of the portion of said street abandoned, the Mayor is hereby directed to execute quit claim deed to be respective portions to the purchasers named.
