CITY OF STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS, HELD ON
MONDAY JULY 11, 1983 , 3:00 P.M.
A called meeting of the City Coinicil of the City of Stephenville was called to
order by the Mayor Pro Tem. with the following,members present:
Mayor Pro Tem John Pollan Councilmembers: James Mc Swain
COlnlcilmembers: Floyd Gordon Ray Revnolds
William G, Brede David Clayton
and with the following members absent: Councilmen G.A. Swindle, Charles Riggins,
and Mayor Joe Cummings.
City Administrator Kurt J. Ackerman, Acting Secretary Betty Chew, City Attorney
Joseph Chandler, Chief of Police Doug Conner, Fire Chief Larry May, Vice President of
Physical Facilities Sy Norris, H & G Construction Company Contractor Gary Goldsmith,
and Gene Morrison were also present.

FORM TARLETON STATE UNIVERSITY TO CLOSE A Pc

Sy Norris, Vice President of Physical Ficilities addressed the Council stating
that Tarleton State University is constructing new dormitory facilities in the vacinity
of Vanderbilt and Lillian Streets west of the Fine Arts Complex. A protion of Tarleton's
contract calls for the extension of utilities from the present campus on the east side
of Lillian Street to the west side of Lillian Street to the new dormitory. The utiliites
will be housed in a 6' x 6' tunnel system which will cross Lillian Street between Tarleton
Street and Vanderbilt Street, This will enable Tarleton State University to extend its
underground utility system to all their facilities located on the western part of the
campus.
Gary Goldsmith, Superintendent of H & G Construction Company presented the plan
for the tunnel, Mr, Goldsmith.stated the H & ,G Construction has a sub - contract with
Burkes Construction for the tunnel excavation and construction. Burkes.: Construction's
earliest starting date on this'project would be August 1st, with an estimated completion
of approximately 30 days with the street being completely closed. If the construction
is done in two parts with one lane of traffic,being allowed to .flow down Lillian Street
the project would take approximately 6 weeks.
After discussion, Councilman Reynolds moved that the council authorize the closing
of Lillian Street between Tarleton and Vanderbilt Street for excavation and concrete
work for construction of the utility tunnel across the street, with Tarleton State
University or its contractor providing barricades and flagmen. Councilman Gordon seconded
the motion, The motion carried by the following vote: I
AYES: All members present voted aye
NOES: None
There being no other business, the meeting adjourned,
