HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984-04-19 - Special City Council-314 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS, HELD ON THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 1984 - 1:30 P.M. A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Stephenville, Texas, was called to order by the Mayor with the following members present: Mayor Joe F. Cummings Charles Riggins, Councilmen: G. A. Swindle William G. Brede James L. McSwain Ray Reynolds Floyd Gordon. Larry Tatum Larry Hammett City Administrator Kurt Ackermann, City Secretary Joyce Pemberton, Mayor - Elect David Clayton, Mrs. David Clayton and mem- bers of the press were also present. Mayor Cummings advised that the purpose of this special meeting was to consider the report from the Recount Committee regarding the mayor's race of the City Officer's Election held on April 7, 1984. Mayor Cummings read the following report from the Recount Committee: "We have recounted the ballots from the April 7, 1984 City Council Election_ relative to Mayor's race between David Clayton and John Pollan as follows: David Clayton--- - - - - -- 776 John Pollan---------------------------- - - - - -- -753 Ballots with no vote for either candidate for Mayor---------------- --------------- - - - - -- 18 Write- Ins--------------------- ---------- - - - - -- 7 Total Ballots Counted - - - - - -- -1,554 Dated this the 16th day of April, 1984 at 11:15 am. s /Lee Solley, chairman s /Janet Hinshaw s /Harvey Gover Councilman Swindle moved that the report from the Recount Committee be accepted as read and that David Clayton be declared the winner of the mayoral race of the City Officer's Election held on the 7th day of April, 1984. Councilman Riggins seconded the motion. The motion carried by the following vote: AYES: All members present voted aye. NOES: None Mayor Cummings presented David Clayton with the Certificate of Election, City Secretary Joyce Pemberton administered the Oath of Office, and David Clayton took the chair as Mayor of the City of Stephenville. There being no other business to come before the Council, Mayor Clayton adjourned the meeting at 1:40 p.m. i David Clayton, Mayor 1
