The City Council of the City of Stephenville, Texas, met in an adjourned regular meeting on the above date, with Mayor J. W. Clements presiding, and the following aldermen present: Chas. Neblett Jr., Dan Lane, Fred McCleskey, L. Riggins, Dan Goodgame, and C. A. McDonald. Messrs. Oscar Burton and Joe Hopper, with the Gulf States Telephone Company, appeared before the Council giving the history of their contract or Franchise for a period of fifty years, dated I! in 1919. it was stated by Mr. Burton that the now existing con- tract was still in effect and that the Telephone Company was not classed as a utility, as in a recent law passed by the Legislature~ In discussion, the Council asked that Mr. Burton prepare a financial statement as to income, rates, etc., of the Telephone Company for the past three years and present same at a later meet- ing. It was moved by Dan Lane, seconded by Dan Goodgame, that the minimum water rate be raised from 2000 gallons to 3000 gallons per:. month, effective as of this reading. Motion carried. It was stated by the Mayor and City Council that Mack Creawe 4 be appointed judge in the City Election to be held on April 7, 1942.
