The City Council of the City of Stephenville, Texas, met in regular session on September 2nd, 1941, with Mayor J. W. Clements presiding and the following aldermen present: Chas. Neblett Jr., Dan Lane, Fred McCleskey, L. Higgins, Dan Goodgame, kid C. A. McDonald. Business was called for by the Mayor. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. L. W. Phillips cam before the Council asking that a 60 foot street on North GrahaniANecured from Frey Street north to the Railroad, and SO feet be secured on Graham from the Railroad to the City Limits. Mr. Phillips stated that after the right-of-way had been secured the Highway Department would construct a road without any further cost to the City. Joe B. Frey, Billie Oxford, and others from the Chamber of Commerce, as a Tax and Budget Committee, appeared before the Councii asking that a reduction of at least 10� on the $100 valuation on the 1941 Tax Roll be considered. After discussion, it was moved by, Fred McCleskey, seconded by C. A. McDonald, that the Tax Rate be the same as last year. ($1.50 on the $100 valuation). The Tax Roll for the year 1941 was presented for approval, by Jack Henderson, Deputy. It was moved by Fred McCleskey, seconded by L. Higgins, that the 1941 Roll be accepted and approved. Motion; carried. It was reported by the Law & Order Committee that Raymond Proffitt had been promoted to fill the vacancy left by the resigna- tion of Oran McMains,at the same salary paid Mr. McMains. ($90.00 per month and gasoline and oil amounting to $10.00 per month). The question of delinquent taxes was discussed. The Mayor asked that the Ordinance Committee, Finance Committee, and the Cityl Attorney, have a meeting and work out some system of collection. The Southwest Natural Gas Company, represented by Messr83. Adlum, Dubenger, and Still, came before the Council with a contract" which is hereto attached. A motion made by Chas. Neblett Jr., seconded by L. Higgins, that the contract be accepted and approved.: Motion carried. After discussion, it was moved by C. A. McDonald, seconded by Fred McCleskey, that a portion of the Market Shed be sold to the highest bidder. This matter to be turned over to the Finance Com- m�ittee and same to be disposed of by Saturdey night, September 6, 1941. Motion carried. it I' Bills and accounts were read and on motion by C. A. McDonald,';'; seconded by Dan Lane, were allowed and ordered paid. At this time the Mayor called *y an executive session.
