HomeMy WebLinkAbout1939-02-07 Regular Meeting v�l Stephenville, Texas February 7, 1939. The City Council of Stephenville, Texas, met in regular session on the 7th of February, 1939, there being present Mayor Henry Clark and Aldermen K. D. Hamilton, T. T. Oliver, Geo. Minters, Jack Henderson, H. D. Barham, Chas. Neblett Jr., J. C. Holcomb and' R. B. Hassel. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Mack Everett and others presented a petition asking that Jim Holcomb Jr. be employed by the City to the position of Night Policeman. The matter was referred to the Law and Order Committee6 with Geo. Minter as substitute for Alderman J. C. Holcomb. Joe B. Tate presented an oral propdsition as to changing namei of streets to letters and numbers, after which motion was made by R. B. Hassel, seconded by J. C. Holcomb, that the matter be Deferred to the Street Committee. Motion carried. Mr. G. W. Collum came before the Council asking that the City' purchase some twenty or twenty-five uniforms for the Band and the ',! purchase of one bass horn, also asked for $7.50 per month raise in: salary. After discussion, a motion was made by Chas. Neblett Jr., seconded by Geo. Minter, that the City purchase twenty-two uniforms and one bass horn, prices of uniforms not to exceed $28.00 each, ii and horn not to exceed $175.00. Motion carried. Mayor Clark stated that due to the death of Mr. E. T. Chandle�, former City Attorney & Treasurer, he had appointed Joseph A. Chandler temporary City Attorney and Treasurer, therefore he would, entertain a motion to elect a permanent City Attorney and Treasurer. A motion was made by J. C. Holcomb, seconded by R. B. Bassel, that:; Joseph A. Chandler be elected to this position at a salary of $25.p0 per month. Motion carried. The committee previously appointed to locate a trade ground reported no permanent ground had been located to date. A motion was made by R. B. Hassel, seconded by Chas. Neblett Jr., that the lot now owned by the City on S. Graham Street be designated as temporary trading ground. Motion carried. Bills and accounts were read and on motion by J. C. Holcomb., seconded by K. D. Hamilton, were allowed and ordered paid.
