HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-05-15 - Special City CouncilCity of Stephenville Special City Council Meeting tE*r<s Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 5:30 PM The City Council of the City of Stephenville, Texas, convened on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 5:30 PM, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 298 West Washington Street, for the purpose of a Special City Council Meeting, with the meeting being open to the public and notice of said meeting, giving the date, time, place and subject thereof, having been posted as prescribed by Chapter 551, Government Code, Vernon's Texas Codes Annotated, with the following members present, to wit: COUNCIL PRESENT: Mayor Kenny Weldon Council Member Mark McClinton Council Member Carla Trussell Mayor Pro Tern Doug Svien Council Member Brady Pendleton Council Member Rhett Harrison Council Member Alan Nix Council Member Sherry Zachery COUNCILABSENT: Council Member Jerry Warren [ I OTHERS ATTENDING: Allen Barnes, City Administrator tk II Staci King, City Secretary Randy Thomas, City Attorney I. Call to Order Mayor Weldon called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Weldon thanked everyone for their participation in the election and stated that we should never take our right to have our voice heard for granted - it is the foundation of what makes our country great. He believes that local government is where this nation is truly at its best. II. Canvass Election Results of the May 5, 2018 City General Election Mayor Weldon appointed Mark McClinton, Rhett Harrison, and Sherry Zachery as the Canvassing Committee. The committee elected Rhett Harrison as chairperson to report the committee's findings. 1. Consider Approval of Resolution No. 2018-11-08 Canvassing the Returns and Declaring the Results of the City General Election MOTION by Rhett Harrison, second by Mark McClinton, to approve Resolution No. 2018- R-08 accepting the results of the canvass and declared the following results of the election: Carla Trussell was duly elected to Place 2; Brady Pendleton was duly elected to Place 4; Alan Nix was duly elected to Place 6; Brandon Huckabee was duly elected to Place 8; and Doug Svien was duly elected as Mayor. MOTION CARRIED by unanimous vote. III. Oath of Office for Newly Elected Council Members Mayor Weldon thanked the council for allowing him to address them and the citizens of Stephenville before officially stepping down as mayor. He began by thanking God, for His provision to the community and his life; his wife, Carrie, for her support and dedication; his family; the council for their hard work and dedication; city staff from the newest employee to Jimmy Chew for their dedication to public service; the civic organizations of Stephenville that help keep the community running; and the local residents of the Stephenville for their support and making Stephenville great. ATTEST: Staci He stated that it has been an honor to serve the community over the last six years and he is proud of what the city has accomplished in that time, and the direction the city is headed. City Secretary Staci King administered the Oath of Office to all elected members. Consider Election of Mayor Pro Tem 1. Brady Pendleton was nominated by Carla Trussell. Mayor Svien asked for any other nominations and there were none. MOTION by Mark McClinton, second by Carla Trussell, to elect Brady Pendleton as Mayor Pro Tem. MOTION CARRIED by unanimous vote. Consider Approval of Kenny Weldon as a Special Water Resource Advisor to Council and Region G of the Texas Water Development Board 1. In the interest of continuity, it was suggested that Kenny Weldon remain as the city's representative for Region G of the Texas Water Development Board. MOTION by Mark McClinton, second by Sherry Zachery, to appoint Kenny Weldon as the city's representative for Region G of the Texas Water Development Board. MOTION CARRIED by unanimous vote.
