A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF STEPHENVILLE,TEXAS DESIGNATING A"BRICK STREET DISTRICT"
WHEREAS, the City of Stephenville is proud of the local history and wishes to preserve it where
possible; and
WHEREAS, Stephenville has received a Downton Historic District designation from the National
Register; and
WHEREAS, many downtown city streets are paved in historic Thurber Brick, which produced
over 80,000 bricks per day at the height of its operation, with bricks being used in cities such as Austin
and Fort Worth, and the production of which was ceased in 1931; and
WHEREAS,the city wishes to implement a plan to preserve these streets for future generations.
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Stephenville as follows:
Section 1.
The City Council of the City of Stephenville designates a "Brick Street District" that will be as follows:
„_ Vanderbilt Street from 011ie Street to Everett Street
Clinton Street from Jones Street to Sloan Street
Everett Street from Vanderbilt Street to Tarleton Street
McNeill Street from Columbia Street to Virginia Street
College Street from Race Street to Floral Street
Mason Street from Barton Street to Floral Street
Green Street from Barton Street to Floral Street
Tarleton Street from Columbia Street to Vine Street
Barton Street from College Street to Green Street
Columbia Street from McNeill Street to Tarleton Street
Belknap Street from McNeill Street to Tarleton Street
Virginia Street from McNeill Street to Tarleton Street
Floral Street from College Street to Sloan Street
These streets will remain as brick streets.
Section 2.
Any brick streets not named above will be repaired or replaced with a surface other than brick. Bricks
that can be salvaged from these streets will be stored and used to preserve the above-named streets
when needed.
Section 3.
This resolution shall become effective immediately after passage.
