Stephenville, Texas;
June 7, 1960.
The City Council met in regular meeting with Mayor Evans presiding and the
following aldermen presents Virgil Dickerson, Chas. Riggins, Burl Lawrence,
Albert Graves, Raymond Anderson, Scott D. Reed and J. P. Hedrick.
Others present were Water Supt. Gann, St. Supt. Collins, Chief Cornell and
City Atty Chandler.
Minutes of previous meetings were read and approved.
A group, representing the Jaycee orginazation, with Mr. Jack Curtie''as-
spokesman, appeared before the Council asking the Cityts permission to set up
booths for a carnival on the south and west parts of the Square. After discussion,
the Mayor appointed Aldermen Hedrick, Dickerson and Riggins as a committee to check
into this and report back at the next regular meeting of the Council.
It was moved by Alderman Dickerson, seconded by Alderman Graves, to adopt the
following Resolution:
RESOLVED, that the Mayor of the City of Stephenville, J. Louis Evans, be and
he'is hereby authorized to execute on behalf of the City of Stephenville to Kenneth
Long a General Warranty Deed, conveying to the said Kenneth Long for the sum of
$2,500.00, which deed shall be 'attested by the City Secretary, that certain land
owned by the City of Stephenville and described as follows:
3.61 acre tract of land out of the William Sims Survey, A -683, located on the
South side of F. M. Highway No. 2157, about one mile East of the Courthouse in
Stephenville, Erath County, Texas, and being a part of that 6 acre tract described
in deed from E. C. Martin and wife, M ldred-Mart'irl;.- _tocHerman Starnes and wife,
Velma Carter Starnes, and recorded in Vol. 358, page 529, of th4 Deed Records of
Erath County, said 3.61 acre tract being described as follows;,
BEGINNING at the Northeast corner of said 6 acre tract, a fence post in the
South boundary line, as fenced, of F. M. Highway No. 2157;
THENCE with the North line of said 6 acrec`tr.act South 63 -25 West along the South
boundary line of said highway, as fenced, a distance of 79 vrs. (219.4 ft.) to a
fence corner) being the Northwest corner of the above mentioned 6 acre tract and the
Northwest corner of this,
THENCE with the West fence line of said 6 acre tract, South 30 -00 East 432.0
vrs. (1200 ft.) to a fence corner in the North fence line of the City Airport
property;.
THENCE with the North fence line of said airport property North 61 -47 East
7.1 vrs. (19.8 ft.) to an internal fence corner of said airport property;
'THENCE with said airport property fence line North 28 -13 West 198.2 vrs.
(550.5 ft.) to the Northerly Northwest corner of said airport property, a fence
corner,
THENCE with the North fence line of said airport property North 61 -47 East 65.7
vrs. (182.4 ft.) to a fence corner in the above mentioned 6 acre tract East fence
line;
THENCE North 30 -00 West with the East fence line of said 6 acre tract 231.3
vrs. (642.6 ft.) to the place of beginning, containing 3.61 acres of land. (This
is the same land described in field notes of John R. Keith, Texas Registered Public
Surveyor No. 1278, from a survey made on June 2, 1960).
I, Rex H. Cates, City Secretary of Stephenville, Texas, do hereby certify that
the above is a true and correct copy of a resolution pa sed by the City Council of

Mayor Evans reported the Highway Department representatives had met with him-
self and the Street Committee, along with the County Commissioners, and the nec-
essary papers are ready to go ahead with the appraisal of land needed for the By-
Pass in the South part of the City. After discussion, it was agreed for the Street
Committee to hire an appraiser to do this necessary work.
Alderman Reed reported -5hat the question had come up if Mrs. Paul Davis was
entitled to get free water after her husband had passed away. This is a matter that
therb has never been a policy made to take care of, and it was agreed for the Water
Committee to study this problem and report back to the Council.
Alderman Reed reported the Cemetery Committee had been asked to clean up the
Colored Cemetery. It was agreed that the Cemetery Employees, alsong with other
City Employees, will clean up this property.
Alderman Graves reported the Dump Ground in good condition, however, the res-
idence at the Dump Ground is badly in need of a new roof. It was agreed to place a
new roof on this building.
It was moved by Alderman Dickerson, seconded by Alderman Hedrick, to advertise
for bids on a street sweeper. Bids to be considered for a 2 and 3 yard capacity
sweeper. Bids to be opened on July 5, 1960, at the regular monthly meeting. Motion

Alderman Lawrence reported the Train Concession at the City Park is now being
set up and will soon be in operation. Also that the Summer Recreation Program is
underway.
Alderman Hedrick reported the traffic lights need to be raised. It was agreed
for the Law & Order Committee to work this out.
It was moved by A lderman Reed, seconded by Alderman Dickerson, that the follow-
ing notice for City Depository Bid for the coming year be advertised. Motion carried.
NOTICE
Notice is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Stephenville, Texas,
will receive sealed proposals for custody of City Funds of said City, from any bank-
ing corporation, association, or individual bankers, doing business within the City
of Stephenville. A11 banking corporations, associations, or individual bankers de-
siring to be selected as the Depository of the funds of said City shall file their
sealed bids with Rex H. Cates, City Secretary, on or before the 5th day of July,
1960, at 5 P. M., stating the rate percent upon daily balance that such bidder offers
to pay to the City for the next year following the date above mentioned. All such
proposals shall be securely kept by the City Secretary and shall not be opened until
the 5th day of July, 1960, at 7:00 otclock P. M., at which time the City Council
of said City shall meet for the purpose of passing upon the same and no proposals
will be received after such sealed bias have been opened. The Council reserves the
right to reject any and all bids.
