The City Council met in regular session on the above date with Mayor Evans: presiding and the following aldermen present: Virgil Dickerson, Chas. Riggins, Walter Brandon, Albert Graves, Dean Murray, Scott D. Reed and J. P. Hedrick. Others present were St. Supt. Collins, Chief Cornell and City Atty. Chandler. Minutes of previous meetings were read and approved. Alderman Graves reported Bryan Hale had offered to buy a portion of land near the Old City Rock Crusher "in Clifton Heights Addition. It was suggested" Yhat Aldermen Graves, Dickerson and Riggins check into this and report back to the Council. Alderman Murray repprted that the owners of some crushed rock at the Airport would let the City have it if the City would pay the freight on this rock. It was pointed out that this rock was not suitable to build streets. It was agreed that the City would move the rock if the owners would give it to us. Discussed at this time was the peddlers who operate at the Auction Barn but no definite action was taken. Alderman Hedrick reported the radio operator who works from 4:00 A. M. to 8:00 A. M. is now working for $50.00 per month and is going to resign. 'It was moved by Alderman Graves, seconded by Alderman Riggins, to raise the salary of the 4:00 A. M. to 8:00 A. M. radio operator to $75.00 per month. Motion carried. Alderman Hedrick also reported there is a heed for a traffic light at the corner of West Washington and N. McIlhaney streets. It was agreed that wthe Law & Order Committee check into this and report back to the Council.' Secretary Cates reported there is not enough money in the Special Park Fund to pay for the 37 acres being bought from Mr.- Hutchinson. After discussion, it was moved by AldermdnD1ckefsdhFo take some additional money from the other funds to pay the difference. The motion was seconded by Alderman Brandon, and was carried. Discussed was the possibility of granting an-individual the right to operate a miniature train at the City Park. It was agreed to look into this further before any action taken. Alderman Dickerson reported some property owners west of Lydia Ave. were asking that the City deed them the 60 ft. strip of land designate d as N. Charlotte Ave., then they in turn would deed a 50 ft. strip through the middle of this property in order to make more building lots in this area. City Attorney Chandler advised that this would hoed checking into to see if Charlotte Ave. could be deeded to these prop- erty owners. Secretary Cates reported the 20 ft. alley,leading to the lot which was bought for a new well,has two garages in it. The Council asked that these people be noti- fied to move the buildings as soon as possible. Opened at this time were the following bids for land at the Airport: V. P. Motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Graves, seconded by Alderman Hedrick, that the annual City Election be called to be held on April 5, 1960, in accordance with Election Ordinance on Page 86C of Minute Book F, and the State Statutes proceedure for use of the secret ballot. The election for the purpose of electing a Mayor and one alderman from each of the 4 Wards of the City, to serve a two year term of office. Motion carried. Mayor Evans appointed Mr. Homer Stephen as City °Election Judge, Mr. Stephen to select his assistants. It was moved by Alderman Dickerson, seconded by Alderman Brandon, that 'bills and accounts be allowed and ordered paid. Motion carried.
