HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-01-06 - Regular City Council13 Stephenville, Texas January 6, 1959. The City Council met in regular session on the above date with Mayor Evans presiding and the following aldermen present: Virgil Dickerson, Marvin Ratliff, Chas. Riggins, Walter Brandon, Albert Graves, Van E. Allen, Scott D. Reed and Earl Weathers. Others present were Water Supt. Gann, Street Supt, McMahan, Chief Cornell and City Atty, Chandler. Minutes of previous meetings were read and approved. Mr. 0. C, Frederick appear before the Council to ask for some reduction on his water bill which is $74.00. This large bill was due to a leak in the water line on Mr. Frederick's property. After discussion, it was moved by Alderman Dickerson, seconded by Alderman Graves, to allow Mr. Frederick a re- duction of $30#00 on the water bill. This motion did not carry by a vote of 2 for and 6 against. Alderman Reed reported the Water Committee to be working on securing a lot near Dale Avenue for a new well, and the property owners should be in soon to deed a street going to this well location. It was moved by Alderman Ratliff, seconded by Alderman Dickerson, to ap- prove the City-audit as prepared by Mr. Cairl Crimmins. Motion carried. Mr. Tommy King !appeared before the Council to discuss the extention of water and sewer lines in the Chamberlin Addition, The Chamberlin Bros. have agreed to pay the cost of extending water and sewer lines to their property, And persons owning lots in this addition will have to pay their pro rata share of the'oost of water and sewer lines. After further discussion, it was moved by Alderman Reed, seconded by Alderman Riggins, that the City accept the pro - posal of Chamberlin Bros. and Mr. Tommy King to figure out the pro rate part of the cost to persons who already own lots in this addition. Motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Allen, seconded by Alderman Ratliff, to adopt an ordinance prohibiting any person, firm or corporation from paving or putting upon any City street, paving or paving material, without receiving a permit to do so from the City Secretary. Motion carried (said ordinance being attached to and becoming apart of these minutes). - It was moved by Alderman Riggins, seconded by Alderman Dickerson, to adopt the ordinance providing the specifications for septic tanks installed within the City Limits of Stephenville. Motion carried (said ordinance being attached to and becoming a part of these minutes). Alderman Reed reported the Committee for reorgaeization of the City Wards had made a study of this and had some recommendations for the Council. City Attorney Chandler -suggested no action be taken on this until the legal portion of this be checked. It was moved by Alderman Ratliff, seconded by Alderman Brandon, to author - ize the- Mayor to enter into a contractual agreement with the State Highway De- partment for securing the right -of -way of the proposed By -Pass route. Motion carried. Discussed at this time was the purchase of Block 3, South Side Addition \ for the purpose of extending the West End Cemetery. The owner of this property had offered to take $4500.00 for this. It was moved by Alderman Allen, seconded by Alderman Brandon, to offer $4000.00 for all of Block 3, South Side Addition, the money to be transferred from Water Works Operating Fund. Motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Ratliff, seconded by Alderman Reed, that bills' and accounts be allowed and ordered paid. Motion carried. There being no other business at this date, the Council tood djourned subject to the Mayor's call. ATTE ayor ecretary.
