HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-09-10 - Special City CouncilStephenville, Texas September 10, 1971 The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Skipper presiding and the following council members present: Charles Riggins, Don Metsgar, Garland Loudermilk, W. M. Irwin, Toby Stone, Raymond Anderson and Mrs. Fred McCleskey. Purpose of the meeting to reconsider the decision made Tuesday night. Councilman Loudermilk thinks the downtown Merchants should be heard. Mr. Jones, attorney, passed out copies of resolution passed by downtown merchants. Mr. Donald Jones, attorney, appeared stating he represents the downtown merchants and they, the downtown merchants, strongly disapprove:placing of trash containers on the square and on sidewalks in downtown area. Request by Attorney Jones, speaking in behalf of downtown merchants, ask the action taken last Tuesday be revoked. There are approximately 16 or 18 members of Downtown Merchants Association. Councilman Metsgar stated he voted to allow trash recepticles to be placed on city sidewalks but wishes he had not voted for this. It was moved by Councilman Loudermilk that the resolution as presented in behalf of the Downtowm Merchants be passed. Pass motion that city sidewalks may not be used for advertising., It was moved by Garland Loudermilk, seconded by Charles Riggins, to rescind action as taken by Council last Tuesday. Motion carried by a vote of 6 for 1 against. Councilman Irwin stated that with price freeze the City Council cannot give any additional insurance coverage. The present company covering Group Policis are are going to double premiums.
