HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-04-04 - Regular City Council72 The Council met in regular session with members present: Charles Riggins, Mrs. Anderson, Toby Stone, Doug Smithey, and Others present were: Director of Parks Gann, City Attorney Chandler, Fire Mars] Administrator Cates, April 4, 1972 Stephenville, Texas Mayor Skipper presiding and the following Fred McCleskey, Garland Loudermilk, Raymond W. M. Irwin. & Recreation Isham, Director of Public Works call Ferguson, Acting Chief Stone and City Minutes of previous meetings were read and approved. A letter concerning gifts from the Zonta Club to.the_Senior Citizens was read.(See attached copy) _�_A motion was made by Mrs. McCleskey and seconded by Councilman Stone, that in the event the Senior Citizens no longer is an active center, then the gifts donated by the Zonta Club would revert back to that club. Motion carried. Councilman Anderson reporting for the Water said the meter and post were set at the new well, but the motor hasn't yet arrived. Councilwoman McCleskey reported the ball, fields were being prepared and that 45 Senior Citizens had taken a site seeing trip to Austin. Councilman Loudermilk reported much trash has been scattered between town and the dump grounds; wants Chief Stone to contact highway patrol to see what can be done. Fire Marshall Ferguson reported 19 fire runs the past month and that the rescue team had recovered one drowning victim. Councilman Stone reported the Street Department was going full blast and Mr. Joe Wallace has been hired to promote street paving. Mr. Stone also reported the screening com- mittee has 2 local and 3 out of city applications to be interviewed as Chief of Police. Councilman Irwin reported there is still plenty of money. Councilman Riggins turned the sanitation report over to Director of Public Works Gann. It was reported that 98.6% of houses were on sewer; only 64 homes in town are not on sewer. Councilman Smithey requested a report as to what it would cost to place these houses on sewer. A letter was read from the G & R Co. concerning their buying a city owned lot and getting a portion of Third Street closed. This was referred to a committee of Coun- cilman Riggins, Loudermilk, and Stone. The Mayor appointed 'a committee of Riggins, Anderson, and Loudermilk to canvass the vote. If, at any time and for any reason the Senior Citizens Center of Stophenville is not an Active Center the following pieces of furniture and articles revert back to the donor, the Zonta Club of Stephenville: I Piano. 2 Sewing Machines (New home) 2 Chests of Drawers.
