HomeMy WebLinkAbout1973-09-07 - Special City CouncilSeptember 7, 1973 Stephenville, Texas 4 The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Donald R. Jones presising and the following members present: Jim Chambers, Charles Riggins, Jesse Sexton, Jack Curtis, Toby Stone and Raymond Anderson. Others present were: City Administrator Shelton, Director of Public Works Gann, Chief Watkins, Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation Hooker, and Fire Marshall Ferguson Mr. Charles F. Hunter Regional Liaison Officer, Div. Of Defense and Disaster Relief, and Mr. Arthur E. Jackson, Regional Red Cross Advisor, were present and Mr. Hunter came before the Council and presented an On -Site Assistance Summary, Recommendations and Action Plan that would constitute the Primary Operational Readiness Improvement Program for the City of Stephenville. After some discussion, Councilman Anderson moved to accept this plan as presented. Councilman Chambers made the second. Motion carried. 41,0 1/ L Councilman Chambers moved to set , 1973 for the date for the Special Election to fill the vacancy on the Council. Councilman Sexton made the second. Motion carried. Chief Watkins came before the Council to discuss the budget of the Police Dept. for 1973 -1974. There was quite a bit of discussion concerning pay raises, number of patrolmen per shift, the ambulance, number of arrests per month, reactions to traffic violations and complanints against the police department. Mayor Jones stated he had not received as many complaints recently and thought the image of the police department better than it had been in the past. The Council discussed joining a Council of Governments .._Councilman.'Curtis moved.to make application for membership to the Central Texas Council`of Governments at a cost of $600.00 per year. Councilman Riggins made the second. Motion_carred. After quite'a bit of discussion, Councilman Chambers moved seconded by Councilman Sexton, to accept the bid of B. D. Click of Abilene to develop four lighted tennis courts at the City Park. After more discussion, Councilman Chambers amended his motion to delete the windscreens from this bid, to be bought at a later date and installed by the City, also delete the sidewalks and foot bridge, for a total price of $52,372.00. When Mayor Jones called for question, the above motion carried. The Council also decided that in the future they will look at the specs before asking for bids.
