Stephenville, Texas
The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Donald
R. Jones presiding and the following members present: Toby Stone, Larry Hammett,
Jesse Sexton,- Charles Riggins, Jack Curtis, Doug Smithey and Jim Chambers.
Others present were: City Administrator Shelton, and City Inspector
Lookingbill.
The purpose of this meeting was for the Building Contractors and the members
of the Council to discuss the adoption of a building code by the City.
Mr. Lester Paige of Fort Worth was present and spoke to the Council in behalf
of the building code.
The general opinion of the builders and contractors present was that the code
would lower the standards that they now practice. They were also concerned about
the increased costs due to permits and the delays for inspections.
Mayor Jones said he felt the Council owed the public a building code in order,
to be eligible for federal grants and a lower Key Rate insurance. The Mayor also
said he could not see why this code would lower the building standards when they
have no minimum at all now.
After quite a bit of discussion, Councilman Hammett suggested setting up a
night meeting so that more of the contractors could be present.
Mayor Jones urged each of the builders and contractors to read the code book
and any recommendations would be appreciated. No action was taken at this time.
Meeting adjourned.]
