OF THE
CITY OF STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS, HELD ON
THURSDAY, JULY 26, 1984 - 1:30 P.M.
A special meeting of the City Council of the City of
Stephenville, Texas, was called to order by the Mayor with the
following members present:
Mayor: David Clayton Floyd Gordon
Councilmembers: Larry Hammett William G. Brede
James L. McSwain Charles Riggins
Larry Tatum
and with the following members absent: G. A. Swindle and Ray
Reynolds.
City Administrator Kurt J. Ackermann, City Secretary Joyce
Pemberton, Director of Finance Charlene Young.
ITEM I: CONSIDER FOR AWARDS BIDS RECEIVED FOR WARNING SIREN.
City Administrator Kurt Ackermann presented the following
bid for a warning siren:
Gifford Electric Co -------------------------- $21,351.00
Stephenville, TX (without installation)
Mr. Ackermann advised that $20,000 had been budgeted and
that Tarleton State University had offered to do the installation,
which would cost approximately $5,000 to $6,000, by the TSU
Horticulture Lab. on W. Washington St.
After some discussion, Councilman Gordon moved that the bid
of $21,351.00 from Gifford Electric Co. be accepted, with the
siren to be installed by Tarleton State University at the
Horticulture Lab. on W. Washington St.; that $350.00 be trans-
ferred from the Airport Improvement Fund #522 to Reserve
Account - Civil Defense #230 -20. Councilman McSwain seconded the
motion. The motion carried by the following vote:
AYES: All members present voted aye.
NOES: None
II: HEAR REQUEST BY BETTY HEATH
Mrs. Betty Heath presented the "Main Street Project" which
would be a three -year project for the renovation of the downtown
business district with the seed money supplied by the State
Historical Society. Mrs. Heath explained that the city's par-
ticipation would be the funding of a project director at $16,000
per year with approximately $2,000 the first year for travel
and schools. Should the Council want to do this project, the
application would have to be in by August 24, 1984, otherwise
will have to wait another year.
After some discussion, it was the consensus of the Mayor and
Council that Mr. Ackermann check with some of the other cities
that have participated in this project to see how it has affected
their city.
ITEM III: BUDGET WORKSHOP.
The Council went into a budget workshop.
No action taken.

There being no other business to be brought before the
Council, Mayor Clayton adjourned the meeting at 3:30 p.m.
