June 30, 1954.
The City Council met in a called session on the above date
with Mayor Clark presiding and the following aldermen present:
J. P. Hedrick, J. W. Clements, Leonard Wood, Herman Ferguson,
J. T. Mays and Joe T. Roach.
Alderman Clements discussed the covering of the council
table and all new desks with glass. It was moved by Alderman
Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Roach, that the building com-
mittee be authorized to purchase glass covering for all new
desks and council tables. Motion carried, unanimously.
Alderman Clements showed several ash trays submitted by
Mr. J. L. Power for souvenirs for the purpose of being used
in the opening of the new City Hall & Fire Station. It was
suggested that the City not spend tax payers mongw in this
way. A
Alderman Clements reported that the mural was about ready
but the City would have to make arrangement for a paper hanger.
It was suggested that the building committee go ahead with hand-
ling of this matter.
It was moved by Alderman Mays, seconded by Alderman Clements,
that the Fire Siren be relocated at the rear of the new City Hall
& Fire Station. Motion carried.
The hiring of a janitor for the new building was discussed,
but referred to the next regular meeting of the council.
The Finance Committee reported on their recommendations
for isurance on the new City Hall & Fire Station upon its com-
pletion. It was moved by Alderman Hedrick, seconded by Alder-
man Wood, that the Council accept the Finance Committee's rec-
ommendations for insurance policy on the new building as follows:

Brad Thompson------------------------- '-5,000.00
Ellis Insurance A-ency---------------- 5,CCC.00
G dola Wolfe Agency ---------- 12 OCC.CO
Harry Braeuer Agency--------- ------ 7,000.00
Jno. Ed Jones & Son Agency------------ 10,000.00
and insure the furniture and contents with Gwyndola Wolfe Agency
in the amount of w4,000.00. Yotion carried.
Messrs. Allen & Rigg, Inspectors _"or Architect Stanley Brown,
reported to the Council concerning their final inspectionthat
with a. few minor descrepencies that the building was 0. K.
Mr. Kenneth Sparks, General Contractor, dame before the
Council to discuss any other change the Council might want and
tp express his thanks for the opportunity to have built this fine
building for the City of Stephenville.
Mr. Sparks was asked if he had any objection for the City
going ahead and moving into the new building even though final
inspection was not complete and if it would delay the work in
any way. Mr. Sparks said he had no objections.
There being no other business at this time, the Council
stood adjourned subject to the Mayor's call.
