June 8, 1954.
The City Council net in a called session on the above date
with Mayor Clark presiding and the following alderman present:
J. P. Hedrick, Grover Hale, J. W. Clements, Joe T. Roach, Herman
Ferguson, Leonard Wood and John Hancock.
Messrs. Rex Boyd and R. H. Sikes, representatives of the
Texas Highway Department, came before the Council requesting
that an ordinance providing for construction and maintenance of
the portion of Farm to Market Highway # 2215 in the City of Step-
henville be passed.
It was moved by Alderman Clements, seconded by Alderman
Wood, that an ordinance be passed for construction, maintenance,
existence and use of the said street project, for the Indemni-
fication of the State of Texas, by the City against all damages
to adjoining, abutting and other property; and for expenses in
connection with any claim or suit thereof; and declaring an emer-
gency and providing that this ordinance shall be effective from
and after its passage. (Said ordinance and agreement being at-
tached to and becoming a part of these minutes). Motion carried
unanimously.
Roger Gideon appeared before the Council asking for a
whole page ad to go into the Qentennial Brochure. It was moved
by Alderman Hedrick, seconded by Alderman Ferguson, that the City
take a one page ad in the Centennial Brochure at a cost of $70.00.
Motion carried unahi.mously.
There being nothing else at this time, the Council stood ad-
journed subject to the Mayor's call.

The City Council met in called session on June 15, 1954, with
Mayor Clark presiding and the following aldermen present: J. W.
Clements, John Hancock, J. P. Hedrick, J. T. Mays, Joe T. Roach,
Leonard Wood and Herman Ferguson.
City Attorney Chandler was also present.
Mayor Clark informed the Council that the purpose of the
meeting was to secure right-of-way for the new Farm to Market Road
through the Clift Estate property.
After some discussion, the following motion was made by alder-
man Hedrick, seconded by alderman Mays, that the Street Committee
be authorized to write a letter to the Clift Estate property owners,
making them an offer of $1000.00 for right-of-way through their
property for the Farm to Market Road. (Said letter being attached
to and becoming a part of this minutes (copy of said letter)).
The motion was carried unanimously.
There being no other business at this �e, the Council stood
adjourned subject to the Mayor's call. _
