The City Council met in regular session on the above date with Mayor Clark presiding and the following aldermen present: J. W. Clements, Grover Hale, J. T. Mays, John Hancock, J. P. Hedrick, Leonard Wood and Herman Ferguson. J. P. Anderson and W. L. Moore were also in attendance. Minutes of last meeting were read and approved. Alderman Hancock reported that his committee had looked into matters referred to them in a called meeting of May 20, 1954 and that he felt that it would be all right to sell Mrs. Ray arham the approximate 1 acre of land adjoining her prop- erty on the south side. After some dldenussion, it was moved by Alderman Hedrick that the City not sell any of the golf course property to Mrs. Barham. The motion died for lack of second. It was moved by Alderman Wood seconded by Alderman Han- cock, that the City sell Mrs. Ray Aarham .57 of an acre of the north part of City Golf Course adjacent to Mrs. Barham's prop- erty for $57.00. Motion carried. Mr. Emmett Moon came before the Council requesting that the City determine if a water well belonging to the City was not in the middle of Smallwood St, just north of Shirley St. If so, he would be agreeable to exchanging some frontage on his lots in exchange for an alley just west of his property. This matter was discussed and referred to the Street Committee for further study and to report back at a later date. Mayor Clark reported that Mr. Bryan Wood wanted to purchase the small house now lacated on the old Dump Ground. It was suggested that since this property was loeased to Mr. Berry and he is using said house for a barn to store feed, not to sell at this time. Alderman Mays reported that he had been approached by Mr. C. C. Pemberton in regard to moving his collection office into the New City Hall. This was discussed and Alderman Clements suggested that his matter be referred to the City Secretary to be worked out by him. The Finance Committee suggested a called meeting of the Council upon the completion of the new City Hall & Fire Station for purpose of insuring same. Alderman Hancock reported that the Park Program was well on its way for the coming summer season. Alderman Wood reported the need for more lights in the Park area, also could use a few street lights. It was moved by Alderman Clements, seconded by Alderman Mays, that $1000.00 be transferred from the General Fund to the R & B Fund. Motion carried unanimously. It was moved by Alderman Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Hale, that the following notice for City Depository for the coming year be advertised: NOTICE Notice is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Stephenville, Texas, will receive sealed proposals for the custody of City Funds, of said City, from any banking corpora- tion association or individual bankers d9ing;business within the 6ity of Stephenville. All banking corporations, associatio ns; or individual bankers desiring to be selected as the Depository of the funds of said City shall file their sealed bids with Ujr H. Cates, City Secretary, on or before the 6th day of July ki , r r 21 1954, stating the rate per cent upon daily balance that such bidder offers to pay to the City for the next year following the date above mentioned. All such proposals shall be se- curely kept by the City Secretary and shall not be opened until the 6th day of July, 1954, at which time the City Coun- cil of said City shall meet for the purpose of passing upon the same, and no proposals will be received after such sealed bids have been opened. The Council reserves the right to re- ject any and all bids. Motion carried unanimously. It was moved by Alderman Mays, seconded by Alderman Wood, that all charity customers on water be allowed only the min- imum of 3000 gallons free, and to pay at the rate of .250 per M. for all used over the minimum. Motion carried unanimously. City Secretary reported that Mr. Raymond Jarratt was be- hind with his water rights payments in the amount of $125.00, for five months. Mayor Clark reported that Mr. Jarrett had approached him regarding a reduction in his water rights pay- ment. This matter was discussed but no action taken. It was moved by Alderman Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Hedrick, that the City Council sit as the Board of Equaliza- tion, to be governed by Ordinance in Minute Book F, page 100a. Motion carried. (The first meeting of the said board to be held on June 15, 1954). It was moved by Alderman Hedrick, seconded by Alderman Mays, that the Board of Equalization be allowed *1.00 per hour for their services. Motion carried. Sealed bids for one 36 in. Gas Range and one 10.5 ft. Electric Refrigerator was received from the following: 1. Homer Nix 2. Goodyear Service Store 3. Shirley's Trading Post 4. Higginbotham Bros. & Co. 5, J. T. Mays & Co. 6. Wright's Appliances. 7. Brown & Pearcy Motor Co. It was moved by Alderman Clements, seconded by Alderman Ferguson, that the Mayor appoint a committee to check over each item bid upon before making their selection, and committee be authorized to purchase one stove and one refrigerator from one of the above mentioned bidders. Motion carried. (Mayor Clark appointed Aldermen Ferguson, Hedrick and 219ments as the committee). It was moved by Alderman Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Hancock, that the Mayor be authorized to sign a deed granting a right of way through the old City Dump Grounds for a new Farm to Market Road. Motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Mays, seconded by Alderman Hale, that bills and accounts be allowed and ordered paid. Motion carried.
