The City Council met in called session on the above date with Mayor Clark presiding and the following aldermen present: J. W. Clements, Leonard Wood, Grover Hale, J. T. Mays, J. P. Hedrick, John Hancock, Joe T. Roach and Herman Ferguson. Messrs. James and Johnson, representatives of the Social Security Administration,discussed with the Council the City's coming under the Social Security Law. After lengthy discussions and questions by the Council, it was suggested that the Secre- tary write Mr. James B. Atlee, Director of Social Security Div., Dept. of Public Welfare, Austin, Texas, and request all necessary information required for the City to come under Social Security Law, also to determine what City Employees would be eligible under the law. Mayor Clark ask for nominations for a Mayor Pro -Tea. Alder- man Wood was nominated and elect" by acclamation. The hiring of a City Health Officer was discussed. It was moved by Alderman Wood, seconded by Alderman Hale, that Dr. L. M. Altaras be appointed City Health Officer. Motion carried unanimously. It was mov d by Alderman Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Clements that 41000.00 be transferred from the General Fund to the R & A Fund. Motion carried unanimously. The hiring of a daytime radio operator for the Police Dept. was discussed. It was suggested that the Law & Order Committee discuss this matter with Erath County Commissioners and try to work out an agreement whereby the County will pay half the day- time operator's salary, then report back to the Council at a later date. Alderman Wood reported that Mrs. Ray Barham wanted to purchase one acre of land located on west side of Barham prop- erty adjoining City Golf Course. This matter was discussed referred to the Park Committee and report back at next regular meeting. The Council discussed remodling of p¢rck on Golf Club House at a cost of approximately $435.00. It was moved by Alderman Clements seconded by Alderman getbuseft4,-that.YEankaCea- mittee go ahead with the necessary repair on the Club House. Motion carried unanimously.
