March 2, 1954.
The City Council met in regular session on the above date
with Mayor Clark presiding and the following alderman present:
Joe B. Frey, J. P. Hedrick, J. T. Mays, Joe T. Roach, Herman
Ferguson and Leonard Wood.
Others present were J. P. Anderson, Water Supto. W. L.
Moore, Chief of Police and Joseph A. Chandler, City attorney.
Minutes of last meeting were read and approved.
Alderman Mays reported that the Fire Committee had decided
to relocate the fire siren at the water plant on N. Paddock St.
It was moved by Alderman Mays, seconded by Alderman Hedrick, that
the fire siren now located on the old City Hall building be moved
to City Water Plant on N. Paddock St., and control switch will be
operated from new City Hall & Fire Station. Motion carried.
i�_Q�PAlderman Hedrick presented a partial release for Mr. Leonard
"Oestyled "The City of Stephenville to E. M. Weeks," said re-
lease involving a portion of land in old 7 acres dump ground which
the City had sold to E. M. Weeks allowing said Weeds to pay for
property $200.00 per year at 6% interest. This matter was dis-
cussed but no action taken.- Mayor Clark requested City Secretary
Cates to notify Mr. L. J. Stone of the above action.
Alderman Frey reported that Water Supt. Anderson had made all
necessary repairs, etc. to water wells and that all 14 wells were
in A-1 shape, ready for summer use.
Alderman Frey reported three changes in plans on City Hall
& Fire Station that should be worked out:
1. Should gas line leading to building from Tarleton St.
be changed to Belknap St
2. Extra work on counter to go in Water Department.
3. Installation of a door dt head of stairway 2nd floor
of Fire Department.
It was moved by Alderman Woods, seconded by Alderman Roach,
that the above mentioned changes be worked out by the building
committee and notify architect of their action. Motion carried.
Bids on light fixtures for new building ware• presented by:
1. Cumins, in the amount of $767993.
2. Marlow Associates, in the amount of $647.85.
It was moved by Alderman Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Hedrick,
that City accept low bid of $647. 5 submitted by Marlow Associates, but
bid be checked before being 0. K. Motion carried.
It was moved by Alderman Hedrick, seconded by Alderman Mays,
that $10 000.00 be transferred from General Fund to City Hall & Fire
Station Fund. Motion carried.
It was moved by Alderman Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Hedrick,
that City accept three year insurance policy -,,on Golf Course residence
with Jno. Ed Jones & Son Agency. Motion carried.
Alderman Ferguson reported that he had been approached by an
individual wantin to put in a pony ride at the City Park and would
allow the City 10 of all monies taken in by these rides. This matter
was discussed and referred to the Park Committee for further study
and to report back at a later date.
A statement from City Attorney Chandler for his fee in the
Clay Hicks land suit was presented to the Council. After some dis-
cussion, it was agreed that City Secretary should present this bill
to the School Board for payment and should Board fail to pay the

Alderman Wood discussed the hiring of a daytime radio operator
for the police radio. It was suggedted that the Law & Order Com-
mittee take this matter up with the County Commissioners and see if
they would be willing to pay half a radio operator's salary, and to
report their findings back to the Council at a later date.
Mayor Clark advised the Council that an affidavit had been
presented him to the fact that an election had been held, in com-
pliance with Art. 974 of the Revised 0-ivil Statutes of Texas, that
the McAlister 2nd Addition, in which a majority of the inhabitants
qualified to vote for members of the State Legislature, voted in
favor of becoming a part of the City of Stephenville. An affidavit
has been made by three of said inhabitants to the fact of holding
this election and its having carried by a majority, which affida-
vit has been filed with the Mayor of the City of Stephenville, and
creates a demand and need that this ordinance be enacted and further
creates an emergency and an imperative public necessity requiring
that this ordinance become effective immediately.
It was moved by Alderman Hedrick, seconded by Alderman Fer-
guson, that an ordinance be adopted annexing the new addition to
the City Limits. The motion carried unanimously (said ordinance
being attached to and becoming a part of these minutes).
It was moved by Alderman Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Wood,
that bills and accounts be allowed and ordered paid. Motion carried.
There being no other business at thi
