The City Council met in regular cession on the above date with Mayor Clark pnesiding and the following aldermen present: Joe B. Frey, J. P. Hedrick, Scott D. Reed, J. T. Mays, J. W. Clements and Herman Ferguson. Others present were Water Supt. J. P. Anderson and City Attorney Joseph A. Chandler. Minutes of last meeting were read and approved. It was moved by Alderman Frey, seconded by Alderman Clements, that due to the fact the Airconditioner Contrac= for could not furnish a Servel gas -fired unit small enough for the space provided in the new City Hall building that as next choice an Electric Aircondition unit be selected. Motion carried. A gvoup of High School students appeared before the Council to express their gratitude for the City's contfri- bution toward their new band uniforms. It was moved by Alderman Reed, seconded by Alderman Mays, that the annual City Election for officials be called on April 6, 1954, in accordance with the Election Ordinance on Page 86C of Minute Book F, and the State Statute procedure for use of the secret ballot. The election to be for a Mayor and one alderman from eqch of the four Wards, to ser- ve a two year term of office. Motion carried unanimously. Mayor Clark appointed J. R. Palmer as Election Judge and Mr. Palmer to select his assistants. Alderman Clements discussed a blanket insurance to cover all City Employees. This matter was further discussed by the Council and referred to the Finance Committee. The Council discussed the possibilities of the City com- ing under the Social Security law, but no action taken. It was moved by Alderman Reed, seconded by Alderman Fer- guson, that two street lights be installed. One at Chamberlin School and one at the corner of Frey & Rome streets. Motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Clements, seconded by Alderman Reed, that Chief of Police bond with Ellis Insurance Agency be renewed for one year. Motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Mays, that Homer Nix Plumbers Bond with U. S. Trust & Guaranty Co. be approved. Motion carried. It was moved by Alderman Clements, seconded by Alderman Mays, that H. Doyle Nix Plumbers Bond with The Travelers In- demnity Co. be approved. Motion carried. Alderman Mays discussed the buying of furniture for the new City Hall & Fire Station. This matter was referred to the Building Committee. Alderman Frey discussed the buying of a corner stone or a bronze plaque to be placed on the new City Hall. The Coun- cil agreed upon a bronze plaque with the following: "Stephen- ville City Hall. Mayor and City Aldermen's names, also the architect and general contractor,^ to be handled by the Build- ing Committee. The following bids were opened for selection of a new police car: 1. Ferel Little Motors: 1954 Plymouth, 4-door Sedan, with water heater & defroster --------------- $1625.00 It was moved by Alderman Reed, seconded by Alderman Frey, that the City purchase from Herrin Motor Co., one 1954 Ford Mainliner, 8 cyl. Interceptor, 160 H. P. for $1676.15, also purchase a 60 Watt Mobile Transmitter and Receiver radio for same. Motion carried unanimously. It was moved by Alderman Mays, seconded by Alderman Ferguson, that bills and accounts be allowed and ordered paid. Motion carried.
