HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-04-17 to 1958-05-01 Regular Meetings16'7 Stephenville, Texas April 17, 1958- The City Council met in called meeting on this date with Mayor Evans presiding and the following aldermen present: Virgil Dickerson, Marvin Ratliff, Chas. Riggins, Walter Brandon, Albert Graves, Van E. Allen, Scott D. Reed and Earl Weathers. Mr. A. W. Boyd,'Resident Engineer of the Texas Highway De- partment, came before the Council reauesting that an ordinance providing for widening of existing pavement from a point on East Washington Street, just east of Bosque River bridge, to the City Limits, be passed. After discussion, it was moved by Alderman Reed, seconded by Alderman Dickerson, that the above mentioned ordinance be passed. Motion carried unanimously. (Said ordin- ance being attached to and becoming a part of these minutes). Mr. Boyd also requested that an ordinance be passed provid- ing for widening of present concrete street on West Washington from Lillian Street to the City Limits; also a curb and gutter be run from Lillian Street east to present curb on Washington Street. This was discussed and it was moved by Alderman Reed, seconded by Alderman Brandon, that the City pass the ordinance, and the City would curb and gutter the above described portion of the street. The motion carried unanimously. (Said ordinance being attached to and becoming a part of these minutes). There being no other business, the Couneil st od adjourned subject to the Mayor's call. Mayor. The City Council met in called session on the above date with Mayor Evans presiding and the following aldermen present: Virgil Dickerson, Marvin Ratliff, Chas. Rigging, Walter Brandon, Albert Graves, Van E. Allen and Scott D. Reed. Present was Chief of Police Cornell. Mayor Evans reported the purpose of this meeting would be presented by Alderman Dickerson. ad Alderman Dickerson R�ePORt i there was a maintainer which had been repossessed by Shaw Equipment Co, and this equipment has notes due in the amount of $5274.00. The City had been offered this maintainer for an old maintainer and $4000.00 difference, on terms of $200.00 per month at 5% simple interest. The Mayor called for a vote on the purchase of this machine and all aldermen voted "No." Discussed at this time was damage done by a City truck,hauling lumber, to a car belonging to Mr. John Henderson. Mr. Henderson had gotten three bids and had the car fixed by lowest bidder, Herrin Motor Company, at a cost of $17.50, said amount having already been paid by Mr. Henderson. It was moved by Alderman Brandon, seconded by Alderman Graves, to reimburse Mr. Henderson for this expense. Motion carried unanimously. It was moved by Alderman Reed, seconded by Alderman Graves, to have the planter box in front of City Hall planted. Stephenville, Texas May 1, 1958• The City Council met in called session on the above date with Mayor Evans presiding and the following aldermen present: Virgil Dickerson, Marvin Ratliff, Chas. Riggins, Walter Brandon, Albert Graves, Van E. Allen, Scott D. Reed and Earl Weathers. Mayor Evans presented an ordinance from The Texas Highway Department providing for paving and widening of Highways 377 and 67 from the west city limits to Washington St. It was moved by Alderman Reed, seconded by Alderman Dickerson, to pass said ordin- ance. Motion carried unanimously (said ordinance being attached to and becoming a part of these minutes). At this time Mrs. Martin, Messrs. Hugh Wolfe, Hardy Lockhart and Dr. Wal.ker appeared before the Council. Mr. Wolfe presented a proposal to buy the City Golf Course, also a drawing showing the pro- posed improvements to buildings and grounds, explaining in detail his plans if the Council agreed to sell him the Golf Course. Mr. Wolfe also stressed the fact this would be operated as a Municipal Recrea- tion Area. After discussion, it was moved by Alderman Allen, seconded by Alderman Brandon, that the City Golf Course be placed up for bids. These bids to be in and opened at the next regular meeting on Tuesday, May 6, 1958• The motion carried unanimously.
