Stephenville, Texas
October 18, 1955.
The City Council met in a called session on the above date
with Mayor Clark presiding and the following aldermen present:
John Hancock, J. W. Clements, J. P. Hedrick, Doyle White, Chas.
Riggins, Dean Murray and Herman Ferguson.
Present, also, was City Attorney Chandler.
Messrs. Doc Boyd and Lynn Hassler discussed with the Council
the Texas Highway Departmentts wanting to purchase from the City
.79 of an acre of land off the City Golf Course. After some dis-
cussion, it was moved by Alderman Hancock, that the City sell this
amount of land off the City Golf Course to the Texas Highway Depart-
ment for $515.00. Toe motion died for lack of a second.
It was moved by Alderman White, seconded by Alderman Murray,
that the following Resolution be adopted:
RESOLVED: That an option to purchase a portion of this tract
is hereby granted to the Texas Highway Department, said option to
remain in force from the date of this Resolution until a manimum of
one hundred twenty (120) days have elapsed. The portion of the
bract offered for sale by this option is described as follows:
Being a tract of parcel of land out of Block 86 in the City
of Stephenville as shown on Kingts Map of the City of Stephenville,
lying north of the East Memorial Cemetery tract and west of the
presently owned tract of the Texas Highway Department, and being
more particularly described as follows:
Beginning at a point in the north line of the East Memorial
Cemetery tract, said point being the wouthwest corner of the Texas
Hi hway Department tract and being S 69 - 391 W, a distance of
396,52 feet from the northeast corner of said Cemetery tract, said
corner being also the Southwest corner of the Texas Highway Depart-
ment tract and lying in the west right-of-way line of existing U. S.
Highway # 281.
THENCE N 31 -041 W. with the west line of the Texas Highway
Department tract, a distance of 243.01 feet to a point for a corner,
said point being the northeast corner of the Texas Highway Department
tract and the southwest corner of a tract of land owned by J. G.
White and lying 486.70 feet S. 68 - 421 W. from the northeast corner
of the Texas Highway Department tract;
THENCE S 68 - 421 W, a distance of 105.5 feet to a point for a
corner, said point lying in the westerly extension of the north line of.
the Texas Highway Department tract;
THENCE S 12 - 02t E. a distance of 239.54 feet to a point for a
corner, said point lying in the north line of the East Memorial Cem-
etery tract;
THENCE N. 69 - 391 E. with the north line of the East Memorial
Cemetery tract and the westerly extension of the south line of the
Texas Highway Department tract, a distance of 185.3 feet to the place
of beginning and containing 0.794 acres of land, more or less, all
out of said Block 86 of the City of Stephenville.
And it is hereby agreed that, $500,00 will be accepted for full
compensation for the above tract and the cost of bringing the abstract
of title to the property down to date. Said Resolution passed un-
animously.
It was moved by Alderman Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Hancock,
that the City adopt the ordinance providing for the establishment of
maximum legal speed within the corporate limits of the City of Step-
henville as follows: (Motion carried).

applying to those streets over w hich Highways designated by
the Texas Highway Commission are presently routed;
Whereas, the r»hlic convenience, safety and necessity of
the City and the traveling public require that maximum legal
speeds be established on the above mentioned streets; and
Whereas, according to provisions of House Bill No. 458
as enacted by the Texas Legislature, methods of establishing
maximum legal speeds have been provided; and
'.%'here--.-, an en.-ineering and traffic investigation has peen
made concerning the streets, aforementioned, by the Texas, Highway
Department, with the concurrence of the City of Stephenville.
Now -Therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL:
Section 1. That speeds, as indicated by the engineering
and traffic investigation, be established at the location in-
dicated by the strip maps prepared in conjunction with the in-
vestigation, as maximum legal speeds;.
Section 2. That reproduced copies of these strip maps be
placed on file in the City Nall of the City of Stephenville in
order that they may be used for reference.
Section 3. That any previous ordinance or regulation of
traffic conflicting with provisions herein shall be hereby ex-
pressly repealed.
Section 4. That the fact that present ordinancec and regu-
lations do not adequately provide for effective regulations of
traffic on the, above mentioned streets creates an emergency and
are imperative public necessity that the rule requiring ordinances
to be read on three several occabions in meetings of the City
Council be susnended; and said rule is hereby suspended, and that
this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after
its passage and after the proper signs are erected.

It was moved by Alderman Clements, seconded by Alderman Hed-
ricl:, that the Council adopt the bond order for an election. The
motion carried (copies of all papers pertaining to the bond order
of election becoming a part of these minutes and being attached
hereto).
Alderman Murray reported that the police department was need-
ing new jackets to go with their uniforms. It was moved by Alder-
man Hedrick, seconded by Alderman. Ferguson, that the City purchase
seven jackets at a cost of $15.95 each for the department. Mot-
ion carried.
There being no other business, the Council stood adjourned
subject to the Mayor's call. )
