October 4, 1955.
The City Council met in regular session on this date with
Mayor Clark presiding and the following aldermen present: J. P.
Hedrick, J. W. Clements, Dean Murray, Herman Ferguson, Doyle
White, Chas. Riggins and Jim Farr.
Others attending were City Attorney Chandler, Chief Moore,
Water Supt. Anderson and Street Supt. McMahan.
Minutes of last meeting were read and approved.
The Council discussed again selling part of the City Golf
Course to the State Highway Department and it was suggested that
several Council Members have a look at the property in question
and report back at a later date.
Alderman White discussed again the overflow of water along
West Frey Street in the 1300 Block. It was moved by Alderman
Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Hedrick, that the Street Committee,
along with Water Supt. Anderson and Street Supt. McMahan, do what-
ever was necessary to stop the overflow of water onto property
owners along the south side of the street at this place. Motion
carried unanimously.
It was moved by Alderman Ferguson, seconded by Alderman Farr,
that Street Committee try and collect the past due account with
the City from Mr. Ennis Favors for paving along his property, and
to hold off doing anything about the overflow of water along his
property in the 1300 Block of West Frey St. until they can come to
some definite understanding. Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Alderman White, seconded by Alderman Riggins,
that because of the lack of personnel to handle and grant entrance-
ways to State Highways inside the City Limits, the City recognize
the Texas State Highway Department to grant all entrance -ways to
all State Highways within the City Limits and request that they
handle this through their Department in the future. Motion carried.
Alderman Farr discussed the need of a signal light at the in-
tersection of the Fort Worth and Mineral Wells highways. This was
discussed but no action was taken.
The 1955-56 annual budget was discussed and it was moved by
Alderman Clements, seconded by Alderman Ferguson, that the budget
be accepted and approved as outlined, that the City Tax Rate for the
year 1955-56 be set at $1,50 on the one hundred dollar valuation.
Motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Alderman Farr, seconded by Alderman White,
that the following ordinance be accepted and approved:
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF STEPHENVILLE,
TEXAS:
That the tax rate in said City for the year 1955 is hereby fixed
at $1.50 (one dollar and fifty cents) on the $100,00 valuation of all
said property,by law and the ordinance of said City, and which tax
is hereby apportioned to the various funds of the City as follows:
