HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-06-01, 22 Regular Meetinga3y Stephenville, Texas June 1, 1943. The City Council of the City of Stephenville, Texas, met in regular session on June 1, 1943, with Mayor J. Clements presi, ing, and the following aldermen present: Dan Lane, T. R. Moore, C. A. McDonald, T. G. Funk, S. E. Richardson, Bras Cole, Reecie Jones and C. E. Martin. Minutes of previous meetings were read and approved. it was moved by T. G. Funk, seconded by Bras Cole, that Mrs. Hattie Hickey be placed on the charity water list until further action. Motion carried. it was moved by C. A. P,icDonald, seconded by T. C. Furu;, that Joseph A. Chandler, City Attorney, be instructed to draw resolu- tion inviting the I. 0. 0. F. officials to Stephenville for the purpose of locating the Orphans Home here. Yotion carried. After discussion, it was moved by C. A. McDonald, by T. R. Moore, that no person outside the City Limits the big summer water rate. The motion was carried. seconded be allowed It was moved by T. G. Funk, seconded by C. A. McDonald, that Charlie Ross' bid of 475.00 on Lot 4, Block 72, City Addition, be rejected as not being enough money. Motion carried. It was moved by C. A. McDonald, seconded by Reecie Jones, that the City advertise for a De-cository for the City Funds. Motion carried. It was moved by C. A. McDonald, seconded by Bras Cole that the City hire Messrs. A. D. Fulbright, Robert Palmer, and Earl Birdwell as members of the Equalization Board, to meet in July. Motion carried. An ordinance requiring Second Hand Dealers to give the name and address of the local parties selling them second hand articles:',, was discussed and referred to the Ordinance Committee. '.i Mr..L, W. Phillips, Secretary to the Chamber of Commerce, came before the Council stating that the Home Demonstration agent !' had a government bulletin as to home canning, etc. Mr. Phillips stated that it would require about w75.00 to print enough bulletins for the rural section of Erath Co. After discussion, it was moved by S. E. Richardson, seconded by Bras Cole, that the City of Step-i henville pay .25.00 on this amount, provided Erath County paid 425.00 and the City of Dublin U25.00. Motion carried. Mr. Phillips, as a member of the Air Port Committee, gave a ;brief discussion of the recommendations as outlined by the Air �i Port Committee. After discussion, it was moved by C. A. McDonald,ij "seconded by T. G. Funk, that the Mayor have authority to appoint two more men from the Council to serve on the committee, and that the Air Port Committee hire an engineer to set up the grades on three runways on the 200 acres now owned by the City of Stephen- ville. Potion carried. Bills and accounts were read and on motion by C. A. 11cDonald,4 seconded by T. R. Moore, were allowed and ordered paid. There being no other business at this time, the Council stood!! The P,`aycr stated that the City Depository had :"30,000 in gov-i' ernment bonds that were due and payable the 15th of June, 1943, and that the Stephenville State Bank were offering as a substitute A0,000 which is described in ._e bend. pledge. After discussion, it was moved by C. A. YcDonald, seconded by T. G. Dunk, that the City release the $30,000 in bonds and accept the $40,000 instead. p;:otion curried.
