HomeMy WebLinkAbout1941-03-04, 07 Regular Meetingsz 1a Stephenville, Texas March 4, 1941. The City Council of the City of Stephenville, Texas, met in regular session on March 4th, 1941, with Mayor J. W. Clements presiding and the following aldermen present: T. T. Oliver, Chas.li Neblett Jr., H. D. Barham, Jack Henderson, Fred McCloskey and L. Riggins. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. J. B. Cox, Chief of the Fire Department, came before the!i Council asking that a new fire truck with booster tank equipment be purchased. No action was taken in regard to this matter. A resolution in regard to the death of Alderman K. D. Hamiltdn was read, after which it was moved by Jack Henderson, seconded bye, T. T. Oliver, that the resolution be adopted and spread on the minutes. Motion carried. Alderman Jack Henderson reported that a sewer line on South Graham Street was in very bad condition and that needed repairs should be made at once. Fire Chief Cox requested that the Council appoint Roy Miller!, truck driver of the Fire Department, and Buster White as assistant' truck driver. It was moved by Fred McCleskey, seconded by L. Riggins, that these men be appointed as above stated. Motion carried. Alderman Henderson stated that due to moving his place of residence to Eastland, that he was offering his resignation as alderman of the City. It was moved by Fred McCleskey, seconded bi L. Riggins, that the resignation of Mr. Henderson be accepted. Motion carried. 'i A special election to be held to fill the unexpired term of ,Jack Henderson was discussed with City Attorney Joseph A. Chandler. After instructions in regard to the matter, it was moved by Chas., Neblett Jr., seconded by Fred McCleskey, that the Mayor order a !special election held on April 1, 1941, for the purpose of electing ,one Alderman in Ward No. 4, to fill the unexpired term of Jack Henderson. Motion carried. Since Mr. Henderson resigned from the Council leaving the ;City without a Mayor-Protem, it was moved by Chas. Neblett Jr., :iseconded by Fred McCleakey, that L. Riggins be elected Mayor Pro- 'Tem. Vote was called for and Mr. Riggins was declared duly elected ,!Mayor Pro-Tem. Mr. G. W. Collum, Band Instructor, requested the purchase of Kittle Drums for the Band. It was moved by Tred.MB0169k6y.7r., seconded by Chas. Neblett Jr., that such equipmsit be purchased. Motion carried. Bills and accounts were read and on motion by H. D. Barham, seconded by T. T. Oliver, were allowed and ordered paid. The Council than stood adjourned in an adjourned regular meeting, subject to the Mayor's call. '.ATTEST: n /(�/J/ Mayor. City Secretary. Stephenville, Texas March 17, 1941. The City Council met in an adjourned regular meeting on the i'17th of March, 1941, with Mayor Clements and the following Alder- men present: Chas. Neblett Jr., L. Riggins, H. D. Barham, Doyle White and Fred YcCleskey. Mayor Clements statdd that the meeting was to consider trans lfering the City Air -Port project to John Tarleton Agricultural :College, also any other business to be discussed. It was moved by Chas. Neblett Jr., seconded by L. Riggins, .that the City offer the air -port property to the College Board of Regents for the purpose of developing an air -port, provided such .offer meet with the approval of the City Attorney. Motion Carrie It was moved by L. higgins, seconded by Doyle White, that th City accept the slide for the City Park presented by Mr. Morris Novit, and that a vote of thanks be extended Mr. Novit. Motion ';'.carried. It was moved by Chas. Neblett Jr., seconded by H. D. Barham, that the following special summer rates be allowed for water: 3,000 gal. minimum be allowed in the place of the regular 12,000 gal. min. for June, July, August and September. li Applicable on requests to domestic or residential consumers !only, for the months of June, July, August and September, who use iwater for irrigating trees, shrubs, flowers and grass, 26,000 gal of water for a $4.50 min., plus $.50 sewer charge. For each $1,000 gal. above the 26,000 min. used,at the regular rate of $.25 the City of Stephenville will furnish without charge an addition& 10000 gal. of water. Customers using this rate will in the event of shortage of A3 2 'supply be immediately placed upon the regular rate upon notice from the water department.
