June 16, 1964
The City Council met in a called, meeting on the above date with Mayor Cook
presiding, and. the following councilmen present: Hubert Darby, Mrs. Doyle White,
Charles Riggins, Mrs. Fred McCleskey, W. H. Stem, Roy Swain, and Bill Christian.
Others present were Chief of Police Cornell, and. City Attorney Chandler.
Mayor Cook asked for reports of each. committee chairman:
Water Works - -W. H. Stem reported the new water wells were coming along fine, and.
the over -all situation looked. very good.
Sewer Department -- Hubert Darby had nothing to report.
Airport -- -Mrs. McCleskey had, nothing to report.
.Parks & Cemetaries --- Bill Christian had. nothing to report.
Law & Orderer-- Charles Riggins reported he had talked, with the local resident
engineer, George Black, concerning the approximate cost for purchasing the City's part
of ripht -of -way for proposed new highway from Highway 108 east to Morgan Mill Road.,
or Highway 67 for a total of $$25,006.
After further discussion it was suggested and. agreed. to delay any further action
until the Finance Committee had time to look into this and. report.
Street Department - - -Roy Swain reported. all of Groesbeck from 4th Street to the
over -pass was ready to pave with the exception of one piece of property now belonging
to Mrs. Nelms. McKnight.
After some discussion, the following motion was made by Councilman Swain and.
seconded by Councilman Riggins:
Authorizing Mr. Gann to go ahead with the paving of Groesbeck Street from 4th
Street to the over -pass, and. the City Secretary to try and secure Mechanics' Lien
Contract from Mr. McKnight for her 100 feet of paving, previously owned. by Mrs. Hopper.
Motion carried.
- It was reported that Mr. John Skipper wanted the Council to consider doing some -
thing about Walnut Street between Belknap and. Graham Street. The Council to try
and. look at the street between the above date and next regular meeting, at which time
motion would. be discussed further.
Also discussed at this time was an air show to be held. at Clark Field, at some
future date. This matter was referred tb the Airport Committeed. for further study.
Councilman Swain reported, that all property on the new South Loop:'; had, been
Purchased with. the exception of the Church of Christ property, and. after some discussion
it was agreed to delay action until a later meeting.
Fire Department -- -Mrs. Doyle White had nothing to report.
Councilman Stem discussed at some length the need, for future planning and. zoning
and. etc, for all new additions to the City of Stephenville.
Councilman Christian reported that the property owners adjacent to the City Park
-along W. Long Street were willing to sell the back 68 feet of their
$680.00 each to the City for more parking area. This matter was referred to the property for
Finance Committee for study.
