Council met in regular session on the above date with Mayor Evans
the following Councilmen present: I. D. Reynolds, Hubert Darby,
E. Lee Orbison, Raymond Anderson, Roy Swain, Harlan Huey and W. H.
Others present were Dir. of Pub. Works Gann, Chief Cornell and City Atty.
Chandler.
Minutes of previous meetings were read and approved.
The Mayor reported a meeting had been held with a committee from the 20th
Centuary Club and it was agreed to move the Historical Marker, near Piggly Wiggly
Store. The plans are to move the markers back to widen the entrance to Erath St.
The Mayor also reported plans have been made to run curb and pave Erath St.
west of the Piggly Wiggly Store. Mr. Osborne has offered to pay 0500.00 on this
project.
It was moved by Councilman Stem, seconded by Councilman Geeslin, to accept
the $500,00 from Mr. Osborne and go ahead with the paving; curb and gutter. Motion
carried.
Councilman Orbison reported the committee has not completed their work on the
community antenna system.
Councilman Reynolds reported the Law & Order Committee would like to ask for
bids on 2 new police cars. After discussion, it was agreed to wait until later.
It was moved by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Anderson, to adopt
and ordinance granting to C. C. Pemberton a franchise to furnish garbage collection
and disposal service to the residents of the City of Stephenville; permitting him
to use the streets, alleys and public ways for the purpose of furnishing and perform-
ing this service and providing for rates and charges to be made by C. C. Pemberton
to those using the service. Motion carried (said ordinance being attached to and
becoming a part of these minutes).
Councilman Anderson reported the Public Works Committee had checked into the
possibility of a new crossing of railroad property at Vanderbilt St. If this is done
the street would be almost against the depot building. The committee stated that due
to the facts the railroad may not consent to the proposed crossing, however, they will
be contacted in the near future.
The Mayor reported that due to the fact several lakes are now in this area the
City would possibly be called on to do rescue work. The City has bought a used panel
truck and plans have been made to buy diving equipment. This equipment will be oper-
ated and maintained by the Fire Department. Also the City is fortunate in having
fireman Kenneth Haley who will train personell in using the diving equipment.
The Mayor reported a meeting will be called Friday at 1:30 P. M. and Mr. Guyton
will be present to give.a report on the results of the underground water survey.
It was moved by Councilman Geeslin, seconded by Councilman Huey, that the City
observe the same holidays as set up by the Chamber of Commerce. Motion carried.
The City Secretary reported the manager of Farmers Feed Cooperative had been
contacted regarding dust on the streets in that area. The manager stated the streets
will be oiled in the near future.
It was moved by Councilman Orbison, seconded by Councilman Geeslin, to accept
back from Texas Highway Department the portion of West Long Street from its inter -
section with South Graham to the intersection of Alexander Road. Motion carried.
It was moved by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Geeslin, to accept
a deed from H. 0. Whitfield for the purpose of a street, the deed for a 50 foot
strip off the N. Pt. of Lot 27, Block 3, Denman Addition. Motion carried.
It was moved by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Darby, to adopt an
ordinance declaring 8 foot alley running Easterly of Lots 7 & 8, and Westerly of lots
5 & 6, of Block 96 in the City of Stephenville, as shown on King's 1956 Map of Step-
henville, at page 809, to have been abandonded as an alley, ordering same vacated
and closed and authorizing the Mayor to execute a quit -claim deed to Westerly 4 feet
thereof and a quit claim deed to Easterly 4 feet thereof to grantees named. Motion
carried (said ordinance being°.aet;tachad to and becoming a part of these minutes).
It was moved by Councilman Reynolds, seconded by Councilman Stem, to adopt an
ordinance declaring a portion of North Columbia Avenue, a portion of West Mason St.,
and a portion of an alley which runs from north to south through Block 6 of the City
of Stephenville, as shown at page 810 of King's 1956 Map of Stephenville, to have
been abandoned for street and alley purposes, ordering same vacated and closed, and
authori ;ing the Mayor to execute a quit claim deed to B. M. Stone of the land so va-
cated and closed. Motion carried (said ordinance being attached to and becoming a
cart of these minutes).

It was agreed the mid - monthly meeting of the Council not be held because it
is a very busy time.
It was moved by Councilman Huey, seconded by Councilman Swain, to adopt an ordinance
amending Article 279 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Stephenville, Texas,
1958, in Section 5 and Section 9 thereof. Motion carried (said ordinance being attached
to and becoming a part of these minutes).
It was moved by Councilman Stem, seconded by Councilman Huey, to accept the City
Audit prepared by Carl Crimmins, Public Accountant. Motion carried.
It was moved by Councilman Stem, seconded by Councilman Huey, to allow the Jay-
vees to connect the Marquee on to the City Street Lighting System. Motion carried.
There being no other business, the Council stood adjourned sub' et to he Mayor's
call.
