January 18, 1966.
The City Council met in called meeting on the above date with Mayor Arthur
presiding and the following councilmen present: Mrs. Doyle White, Roy Swain, Chas.
Riggi.ns, Telefus B. Cawyer and Mrs. Fred McCleskey., also Robert Herrin.
Messrs. C. W. Bryant, John Clark, 0. V. King and Rev. Haggar appeared before
the Council representing the First Presbyterian Church. Mr. C. W. Bryant, acting
as spokesman for the group, stated the church is seriously considering selling
their present property and are interested in buying some City owned land on the
West side of Harbin Drive which is located north of Block 1411 City Addition. The
church would like to buy 450 feet on Harbin Drive and extending the depth of the
City owned property. If such land is bought the church plans to build a new church.
Mayor Arthur explained to this group that the only way this land can be sold
is by advertising the land for sale and considering bids.
Mr. Gann explained to the Council and the church representatives that there is
no water at this location, that it would require an extension of a 6 inch main under
Harbin Drive and extending a 2 inch line to the proposed building site. The ap-
proximate cost of water line would be $800.00. The cost to be paid by anyone who
needs water service in this area. Also, City sewer service is not available.
It was moved by Councilman Cawyer, seconded by Councilman Herrin, that the
City advertise for bids on sale of a tract of land being 2.3 acres, more or less,
out of B. W. Roberts Sub- division of John Blair Survey, located on Harbin Drive,
being described by metes and bounds in such advertisement. Bids to be opened at
7:00 o'clock P. M. February 1, 1966. Motion carried.
