The City Council met in regular meeting on the above date with Mayor Arthur presiding'and the following councilmen present: Roy Swain, Chas. Riggins, Bill Christian, Telefus B. Cawyer and Mrs. Fred McCleskey., also Robert Herrin. Present for the meeting were Dir. of Pub. Works Gann Chief Cornell, Dir. of Parks & Recreation Grooms, Street Supt. Collins and City Atty. Chandler. Mr. Harlan Huey appeared before the Council asking that permission be given for Moving Greenview Drive. Mr. Huey offered to give 25 feet off lots on the west side of Greenview Drive (for street purposes) in exchange for 25 feet of the street. This being done to increase the depth of lots on the east side of this street. Mr. Huey-pointed out that all the property is vacant and owned by one person. It was mov -ed by Councilman Christian, seconded by Councilman Cawyer, to grant Mr. Huey per- mission to change the street as stated above. Councilman Riggins suggested that the proposal of Mr. Huey be studied before any action taken. It was then moved by Council - man Christian, seconded by Councilman Cawyer, that the motion be withdrawn, that the Street Committee study the proposal and give a report at a called meeting on Friday, January 7th at 1:15 P. M. Motion carried. Dr. Nathan Cedars and Mr. Toby Stone appeared before the Council and reported they have been trying to get an addition started and a street opened up in such addition. The men asked why the City crew has not completed the street and laying utility lines. It was stated that the City has done work in other additions. It was pointed out to this group that work has been done in the addition as far as �v possible without a large amount of dirt being moved from the high places and placed on the low portion of the addition. It was also explained that curb and gutter must be set before paving could be done. After discussion, Dr. Cedars agreed to share the cost of moving the necessary dirt if the City would pay half of such cost. It was estimated that the dirt could be moved for .20X per yard. It was moved by Councilman Herrin, seconded by Councilman Christian, that the City enter into a contract with a contractor for moving the necessary dirt on only the one street. The cost of moving said dirt to be shared by Dr. Cedars and the City. Motion carried. Councilman Herrin reported a letter received from Mrs. Leatherman requesting the traffic light be turned on at the Washington Street Baptist Church during ser -kites on Sunday mornings. The Council asked Chief of Police Cornell to check and see if there is enough traffic to require the use of this light on Sunday mornings. The Council discussed the charge for use of City owned chairs at the Park. It was moved by Councilwoman McCleskey, seconded by Councilman Christian, that charges for use of the chairs be as follows: .10� per chair per day for all chairs leaving the City Limits. .05 per chair per day for all chairs used in the City when such chair is taken 40 outside the Recreation building. The revenue from use of chairs to be placed in a Special Fund for the purchase of new chairs. Motion carried unanimously. There being no other business at this time, the Council stood adjourned subject to the Mayor's call. Mayor. A TT c/ ty Secretary.
