The City Council met in a regi.zlar.meeting on the above date with Mayor Arthur
presiding and the following council members present: Don Metsga.r, Garlan
Loudermilk, Charles Riggins, W.M Irwin, Tele-fus B. Cawyer, and Mrs. Fred
McCloskey. I ,
Mr. Carl Chumney appeared before the Council and discussed plans for remodeling
the post office building for use as a library.
The following recommendations were made:
Lower ceiling to nine feet and place translucent panels in ceiling for natural
light; enclose windows except on the east side; and install thermo -payee window
on the east side; insulate and panel inside walls; carpet the floor, and petition
off a work room in the northwest corner.,
It was mov §d by Councilman Irwin, and seconded by Councilman Riggins to employ
Mr. Carl Chumney as engineer for library remodeling, at 2% off contract price.
Mr. Chumney to work with the library committee. The motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Harlan Huey appeared before the Council and presented a plot plan for
subdividing land sout'n of Loop 195 and west of South Dale Avenue. The sub-
division to be known as West Gate Addition. Mr. Huey agreed to install water
and sewer lines and b -ild streets as recommended by the Director of Public
Works.
It was moved by Councilman Met,sgar and seconded by Councilman Irwin to give
tentative anoroval to the West Gate Subdivision. Mr. Huey to redraw the
plat and dedicate streets of 50 feet width. The motion carried unanimously.
Per. Seth Moore appeared before the Council asking that a 50 foot strip of
land on the south side of Frey Street by annexed to the City. This land is
needed to extend Frey Street westerly tot he Tanglewood addition:
It was moved by Councilman Metsgar and seconded by Councilman Riggins to prepare
an ordinance annexing the above described lgridi
The property owners are to be notified in writing of such proposed annexation.
The motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Vernon Gunn appeared before the Council asking that the one block of Sadie
Street, lying between Race and Donna Streets, be closed. Mr. Gunn is the owner

of property on both sides of this street
It was moved by Councilman Irwin and seconded by Councilman Riggins that a committee
be appointed to study the reouest to close Sadie Street. The motion carried
unanimously. Councilmen Irwin, Loudermilk, and Metsgar w: =re appointed to the
committee.
Councilman Irwin reported that Street Superintendent C. C. Booth has resigned
effective June 1. Also reported that approsimately 5,000 feet of streets have
been resurgaced.
Council Loudermilk . reported that other bids have not been received for repairs
at the airport.
Councilwoman Mc Cleskey retorted that all activities at the Park have large
attendance. Also reported was the need to apply for Federal aid that is now
available for Parks and Recreation use.
Councilman Riggins reported for Councilman Herrin asked that consideration be
given to the reouest for appointment of Assistant Chief of Police.
It was moved by Councilman Riggins and seconded by Councilman Irwin that Terry
McCoy be ?p- ointed assistant Chief of Police at a salary of •':;$400.00 per month.
The motion carried.
Councilman Riggins reported that !''ir. Fagan of T'omer Hunter Associates has
visited the City and will have recommendation for the size of water lines to
the Tanglewood Addition.
Also, Mr. Fagan is "assisting in the preparation of a subdivision ordinance.
It was also reported that Mr; Fagan is working on plans and estimated the cost
of expanding the water system. It is hoped that the work can.be done this
winter and completed by next spring.
The Mayor read a letter from the Industrial Foundation offering to trade the
necessary land for right of way on Harbin Drive for an equal ar<ount of land
South of proposed highway. No action w; =s taken.
The following bids received for• tearing down buildings on former Higginbotham
property:
Philip Hale - - -- $3,900.00 - -To be paid to Philip Hale.
Joe Frambro Construction Co. `1.00 -- To be paid to City of Stephenville.
It was mowed by Councilman Irwin and seconds by Councilman Metsgar to accept the
bid of Franbro Construction Company, provided a h5000.00 performance bond be
furnished with 90 calendar days be allowed to complete the job. Penalty
after 90 days to be $100.00 per day. Trie motion carried u.nanimously.
A bid for the purchase of land on the east side of the Bosque between East
Washington and East Long Street was opened. The bid price being $1250.00.

Tax Collector notify all persons owing delinquent Personal Property Tax.
The motion carried unanimously.

the necessary funds from Water Works Operating Fund to the Udater• Works 'r'ar•r•ant
Fund. The motion carried unanimously.
Therebeing no other business at this time, the C it shod adjourned subject
to the Mayor's call.
