HomeMy WebLinkAbout1969-06-10 - Special City Council144 Stephenville, Texas June 10, 1969 The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Arthur presid- ing and the following council members present: Robert Herrin, Don Metsgar, Garland Loudermilk, Charles Riggins, Jack Curtis, Raymond Anderson, and Mrs. Fred McCleskey. Mayor reported that purpose of the meeting is to consider the purchase of land for a well site. Director of Finance reported that Mr. Taylor was contacted with reguard to purchase of land for a well. Mr Taylor turned the offer down. Last Friday Mr. McAlister was contacted in reguard to purchase of land for the well site. The offer was turned down at that time. It was reported that Mr. Taylor has now agreed to sell tle city land for the well site for $1,000.00 with the following stipulations: give Mr. Taylor a letter stating that he has the right to use the city land that is not occupied by the well and pumps, and that city tap the water line and sell water to Mr. Taylor should he ever run out of water in his well. It was moved by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Loudermilk, to authorize Director of Finance to purchse well site from Mr. Taylor. Motion carried unanimously. It was moved by Councilman Riggins, seconded by Councilman Herrin, to adopt the follow- ing resolution: Resolved, that the Mayor, Jack Arthur, is authorized to write a letter to Mr. and Mrs. F. N. Taylor reading as follows: "This letter being written by virture of action of the city council of the City of Stephenville, Texas, taken at meeting shown on the minutes of said city councilin Volume I at page 143 of city council minute records. You have agreed to execute to the City of Stephenville a deed conveying a tract of land 150 feet square out of that land conveyed to you by Luke B. Stephens and others, dated October 7, 1927. In connection with this conveyance you have requested this letter of the city. The City Council has authorized me to state to you that if the well on your land goes dry the city will furnish water at the mininum rates under city schedule provided there is a well producing water from this land you are conveying to the city. There will be a fence and gate around the well to be drilled but you will have a right to graze any of the land included in that described in such deed which is not fenced in with the well proper. No house for dwelling purposes will be placed on this land." Motion carried . It was moved by Councilman Anderson, seconded by Councilman Loudermilk, to offer Mr. McAlister $1,000.00 for a well site approximately one half mile from the Taylor site. Motion carried unanimously. It was moved Councilman Riggins, seconded by Councilman Curtis, that Chief of Police and Director of Finance be authorized to proceed with hiring and training of personell to operate emergency ambulance service also to get information on: -the purchase of an ambulance. Motion carried unanimously. It was moved by Councilman Metsgar, seconded by Councilman Curtis, to advertise for bids for an ambulance. Motion carried unanimously. It was moved by Councilman Curtis, seconded by Councilwoman McCloskey, to authorize the installing of Mercury Vapor lights on Harbin Drive. Motion carried. The council goes on record to commend R. Y. Gann, Danny Johnson and Tarleton State College for their efforts in securing the Sewage Works School to begin June 23, 1969. It was moved by Councilman Loudermilk, seconded by Councilwoman McCleskey, to transfer the necessary money from the Sales Tax Fund to pay for emergency ambulance costs. Motion carried unanimously. There being no other business at this time, the cou it st od adjourned, subject o the Mayor's call.
