HomeMy WebLinkAbout1969-03-14 - Special City CouncilStephenville, Texas March 14, 1969 The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Arthur Presiding and the following council members present: Don Metsgar, Garland Loudermilk, Charles Riggins, W. M. Irwin, Raymond Anderson and Mrs. Fred McCleskey. It was moved by Councilwoman McCleskey, seconded by Councilman Irwin, to adopt the following resolution: RESOLUTION Resolved, that the Mayor, Jack Arthur, is here by authorized to execute deed conveying to T. C. Poston for the sum of $500.00 the following described land: That certain tract of land in Stephenville, Texas, formerly being a part of west Pecan street and being that portion lying between the east line of north Belknap avenue and the west line of north Graham street in the City of Stephenville in Erath County, Texas, ,shown by King's 1956 map of Stephenville at page 806 thereof: Said portion of west Pecan street having been declared abandoned for street purposes and having been vacated by ordinance of the city council of the City of Stephenville and said land having been advertised as provided by the charter of the City of Stephenville for sale, and bids having been made and the said T. C. Poston having made the highest bid of $500.00 and same having been accepted by the City Council, it is hereby directed that deed be made in accordance with this acceptance. Motion carried unanimously. It was moved by Councilman Irwin, seconded by Councilman Loudermilk, to transfer $11,983.03 from the Water Works Operating Fund to pay the interest now due on warrants. Motion carried unanimously. The council discussed the finding that H. F. Curry is using city water that is not going through a water meter. It was moved by Councilman Irwin, seconded by Councilman Riggins, that Mr. Curry be charged $75.00 for water that was not run through the city meter. Motion carried. Mayor presented a letter signed by several property owners on Race street. This was a request that parking be taken off one side of Race street between Tarleton and Collins streets. This was refered to the Law and Order Committee for study and report at the next regular meeting. Mr. Jerry Parham appeared before the council offering to provide ambulance service in the city and county. Mr. Parham proposed to furnish 2 ambulances and 2 men on a 24 hour basis, and that he be allowed all the fees for ambulance service plus a $1,500.00 per month subsidy. The council discussed the ambualance service, and it was decided that the city cannot ORDINANCE DECLARING ALL OF WEST PECAN STREET FROM THE EAST LINE OF NORTH BELKNAP AVENUE TO THE WEST LINE OF NORTH GRAHAM STREET IN THE CITY OF STEPHENVILLE IN ERATH COUNTY, TEXAS, TO HAVE BEEN ABANDONED AS A STREET, ORDERING SAME VACATED AND CLOSED AND AUTHORIZING THE ADVERTISEMENT OF SAID LAND FOR SALE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROPER PROCEDURE FOR SALE OF CITY LANDS. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF STEPHENVILLE: Section One All of West Pecan Street which lies between the East line of North Belknap Avenue and the West line of North Graham Street in the City of Stephen - ville'.in Erath County, Texas, as shown an King's 1956 Map of Stephenville at page 806 is hereby declared to have been abandoned for street purposes and said West Pecan Street as bounded is hereby ordered vacated and closed as a street. Section Two The City Secretary shall take the necessary action to advertise said land which has been closed and vacated as a street, being that portion of West Pecan Street above described, for sale with bids to be made as provided by City Charter of Stephenville, Texas. PASSED AND APPROVED thisl4th d ATTES City Secretary 457 provide the service, but will consider going into the ambulance business if the county will share the expenses. There being no other business at this time the council od adjourned, subject to the Mayor's call. Mayor ATTC
