HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-09-03 - Special City CouncilStephenville, Texas September 3, 1971 The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Skipper pre- siding and the following council members present: Charles Riggins, Don Metsgar, Garland Loudermilk, Doug Smithey, W. M. Irwin, Toby Stone and Mrs. Fred McCleskey. Mr. E. A. Blanchard, Chairman of Equalization Board, appeared before the Council at the request of the Council. Mr. Blanchard presented each of the council members a copy of reports concerning the rendition of taxes by Lone Star Gas Co. This re- port was discussed in detail and the council members asked questions concerning the report and rendition proceedures of other utility companies. Mr. Blanchard in conclusion stated that should the council feel that the rendition as recommended by the Board of Equalization be out of line then upon request of the council the Board would be called back into session to reconsider the rendition of Lone Star Gas Co. It was then moved by Councilman Loudermilk, seconded by Councilwoman McCleskey, to accept the report of the Equalization Board that rendition for 1971 of Lone Star Gas Co. be $220,000.00 for the year 1971. Motion carried by vote of six for, one against. It was recommended by the Council that all utility companies be required to furnish a copy of all improvements to the Tax Collector. each year and that these be made available to the Equalization Board. The Council asked the City Administrator to contact the County and School in an attempt to get them to share the cost of appraisal of all utility companies. The Council briefly discussed the applicants for City Judge. Then each council member voted for the applicant of their choice by writing the name and placing same in a hat. A canvass of which shows following results: J. P. Hedrick--- - - - - -- 2 votes Ned Kemp-------- - - - - -- 6 votes "It was then moved by Councilman Riggins, seconded by Councilman Stone, that Ned Kemp be appointed City Judge on a six months trial basis.
