The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Skipper pre -
siding and the following council members present: Charles Riggins, Garland Loudermilk,
Doug Smithey, W. M. Irwin, Toby Stone, Raymond Anderson and Mrs. Fred McCleskey.
Mayor stated that the purpose of the meeting is to discuss the proposed budget for 1971-
72. City Administrator presented and discussed the proposed budget.
Council members asked questions about various items in the budget. It was noted that
the proposed budget exceeds the estimated revenue.
All Council members voiced objections to deficit spending and feel that the budget
should be cut in order that expenses will not exceed the estimated revenue.
The Council discussed the request of Director of Parks for a car allowance. It was
agreed to furnish Director of Parks transportation instead of giving a car allowance.
The Council members considered each department budget and cuts were made wherein it was
felt that such cuts would not seriously harm the operation of the respective depart -
ments. The budget was reduced to approximately $770,000.00. The Council asked the
City Administrator to prepare a budget based on the proposed cuts and the Council
will meet Tuesday, August 17, at 1:30 P.M. to consider the budget.
The Council discussed the construction of the new fire station and it was noted that
no money was provided in the budget for salaries to operate another fire station.
The Council agreed to ask members of the Commissioner's Court to meet with the Council
to discuss the county paying salary of 2 additional firemen.
~' The Council discussed briefly the increase in salary of City employees. The City
employees present were asked to leave the meeting and the Council further discussed
salaries of employees.
There were no other notes taken and the council adjourned, subject to.the Mayor's call.
