HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-04-13 - Special City CouncilV.7�Wja Stephenville, Texas April 13, 1971 The City Council met in a called meeting on the above date with Mayor Skipper presiding and the following council members present: Charles Riggins, Don Metsgar, Garland Loudermilk, Doug Smithey, W. M. Irwin, Toby Stone, Raymond Anderson and Mrs. Fred McCleskey. The four recently elected council members were sworn in. The Mayor reported the purpose of the meeting is to consider the four applications for City Judge. The council discussed each of the applications for City Judge. The following nominations were made: J. F. Wade Morris L. Johnson It was moved by Councilman Smithey, seconded by Councilman Metsgar, that nominations cease. Motion carried. The following votes were received: J. F. Wade 7 Morris L. Johnson 2 Mr. J. F. Wade was then declared City Judge on a six months trial basis. It was moved by Councilman Irwin, seconded by Councilman Metsgar, to pay Sue Webb $30.00 for extra work as secretary for thetemporary City Judge. Motion carried. It was moved by Councilman Loudermilk, seconded by Councilwoman McCleskey, to approve the proposal of Texas Highway Department to install traffic light at the intersection of West Washington and Lillian streets. Motion carried. It was moved by Councilman Irwin, seconded by Councilman Loudermilk, to appoint E. A. Blanchard, C. E. Skiles, and T. C. House Equalization Board members. After discussion the motion was withdrawn. This to be taken up at the next regular council meeting. There being no other business at this time, the council stood adjourned, subject to the Mayor's call. Mayor ATTEST: Of-'J �Z & Cit Secretary I ORDER OF MAYOR APPOINTING ALTERNATE PRESIDING JUDGE FOR CITY ELECTION TO BE HELD ON APRIL 6, 1971. WHEREAS, Homer Stephen was duly appointed presiding Judge for the regular city election to be held on April 6, 1971; and WHEREAS since said appointment the said Homer Stephen has died and it is necessary that an alternate presiding Judge be appointed; and WHEREAS as Mayor of the City of Stephenville, the power to appoint an alternate City Judge is vested in me under the Election Code of the State of Texas: NOW, THEREFORE, I, John D. Skipper, Mayor if the City of Steph- enville, do hereby appoint Olen Fenner , alternate pre- siding Judge for said regular city election to be held on April 6, 1971 and the maximum number of clerks to be appointed by said alternate elec- tion judge to serve at said election is hereby fixed at fifteen.
