Mayor Jones explained that the purpose of this meeting was to consider
whether or not to accept any of the bids for the building of a new fire station.
City Administrator Shelton reported that the following costs would be add-
ed to the cost of the construction of the building: furniture - $3,000. and
salaries of two or three men - fringe benefits and utilities, etc. which
would total approximately $20,000 for this year.
The Council discussed the possibility of the County sharing some of the ex-
pense, of using some of the Tarleton students to help man the station, and using
the men driving the emergency ambulance, if we get the emergency ambulance ser-
vice.
It was the consensus of the Mayor and Council that we would need to hire
at least two more men.
Councilmen Riggins. and Irwin stated that, in their opinions, the need was
not great enough to justify the expense.
Councilman Anderson said he thought we should wait until some of our other
debts are retired, such as, the sewer outfall line and the proposed water well
field, etc.

Mayor Jones stated that, in his opinion, that development is in that
area and in conjunction with the fact that answer time could be reduced 2 to 4
bid if utilized on a minimum basis would
minutes combined with the type , ,
s
justify the expense.
After more discussion, Councilman Guthrie moved to accept the bid of $94,300.
from Kenneth Currier with the requirement that he provide a Performance Bond
in the amount of $94,300.00. Councilman McCoy made the second. Motion carried

of manning the new station.
