HomeMy WebLinkAbout1943-11-02 Regular Meeting.3s/ Stephenville, Texas ovember 2, 1943. - The City Council of the City of Stephenville, Texas, met in regular session on November 2, 1943, with Mayor Pro-Tem C. A. McDonald presiding and the following aldermen present: T. R. Moore, Dan Lane, S. E. Richardson, C. E. Martin, Reecie Jones and! T. G. Funk. i i+Iinutes of previous meetings were read and approved. After discussion, a motion was made by Dan Lane, seconded by T. G. Funk, that the City gravel the driveways in the East -end Cemetery. Motion carried. It was suggested that the City Secretary write Mr. T. C. Poston asking him to repair the old pavilion at the City Park, as per contract. Bills and accounts were read and on motion by C. E. Martin, seconded by Dan Lane, were allowed and ordered paid. Frey cane before':. the Council, as a committee for the Cemetery i-ssociation, asking "permission to deed both cemeteries to the City of Stephenville January 1, 1944, and both to be operated and maintained by said City thereafter. On discussion a motion was made by C. A. Mc- Donald, seconded by Bras Cole, that the Tdayor be authorized to appoint a committee of three, and said committee shall visit Comanche, and any other towns that they deem necessary, in obtaining'; information for maintaininC a city owned cemetery. 1rotion carrie&. The I:ayor naming the following aldermen as a committee: T. R. Tdoore, Dan Lane, and Bras Cole. Mr. 1:7. B. Bale came before the Council asking the City to gravel a street opened up, running east from Devine Street,and passing through the Bassel property. 1.fter discussion, the matter was referred to the Street Committee. LIr. Hale also,ask permissioj? to use the electric wirein� in the arena at the City Park until Texas Power 8^ Light could obtain necessary supplies. This matter!' was referred to the Park Committee. It was moved by S. E. Richardson, seconded by Bras Cole, that the City buy new Band equipment in the amount of 'P100.00,for the school, out of the Band Fund. I3otion carried. Yr. H. H. Hassler wrote a letter asking for a lease on the 200 acres of land north of town, ;,'ith orrme nrovisions in the letter, )Yid this matter was referred to the Finance Committee. Hi;;h,,vay and traffic situations were discussed and on motion by S. E. tichardson, seconded by Reecie Jones, that the Street Co.,unittee work out a system on parking in one block, on East '::ash- ington St. from the Fariners Bank east to the Safeway store. I.:otign carried. It was moved by C. i'L. McDonald, seconded by T. G. Funk, that the Audit report of the City funds, as made by ;i. F. Turner & Co.' be accepted and approved, also that T.:Ir. Turner be paid a fee of 9150,00 for his services. Motion carried. It was moved by C. E. Tdartin, seconded by T. G. Funk, that J. L. Johnson's salary be raised. to $20.00 per week, effective this week. T._otion carried.
