September 6, 1938.
The City Council of the City of Stephenville met in regular
session at the City Hall on September 6, 1938, with Mayor Henry
Jlark and the following aldermen present: K. D. Hamilton, T. T.
Oliver, Geo. Minter, H. D. Barham, Jack Henderson, R. B. Bassel,
J. C. Holcomb, and Chas. Neblett Jr.
Minutes of last meeting were read and approved.
F. M. Stigler and others presented a petition to the Council
asking for an election to levy a tax to establish and maintain a
municipal band of the City. After discussion, no action was take
on the matter.
A Depository Bond for custody of City funds was presented for
pproval by the Stephenville State Bank, after which motion was
.ads by R. B. Bassel, seconded by T. T. Oliver, that said bond be
ecepted and approved. Notion carried.
The annual budget for the year 1938-39 was presented for ap-
proval by the 91ty Secretary. J. C. Holcomb, Chairman of the
Finance Committee, reported that the committee had gone over and
examined each item of the budget and that the committee recommen-
ded the budget be adopted. A motion was made by J. C. Holcomb,
(seconded by Geo. IY"_inter, that the budget be accepted and approved
as recommended. Motion carried.
An ordinance for levy of a tax rate of the City, for the ye
1938, was read, after which a motion was made by T. T. Oliver,
seconded by Chas. Neblett Jr., that the tax rate of $1.50 on the
$100.00 valuation be accepted and approved, as set out in the
ordinance on Page 102, Book E, Minutes of the City. Notion duly
carried.
The City Secretary stated that August 31, 1938, was the end
of the fiscal year, and aslred that the accounts of the City be
audited. A motion was made by K. D. Hamilton, seconded by Jack
Henderson, that Carl Zeeck be employed to audit City books and
accounts, and be paid $95.00 for this work. Motion carried.
Bills and accounts were read and on motion by R. B. Bassel,
seconded by T. T. Oliver, were allowed and ordered paid.
There being nothing further coming up for consideration at
this time, the Council stood adjourned in an adjourned regular
meeting, subject to the Mayor's call.
