The City Council of Stephenville, Texas, met in regular
session on the 6th day of April, 1937i there being present Mayor
Henry Clark, R. B. Bassel, T. T. Oliver, Geo, Minter, C. L. Crom-
well, K. D. Hamilton, J. C. Holcomb, J2 0. Blakeney, H. C. Martin,
and City Attorney E. T. Chandler.
Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. Business
was called for by Mayor Clark.
-The returns of the City Election were opened and canvassed..
Those receiving the highest vote were as follows: R. B. Bassel,
Ward No..l; T. T. Oliver, Ward No. 2; K. D. Hamilton, Ward No. 3;
and J. 0. Blakeney, Ward No. 4. A motion was made by Geo. Minter,
seconded by J. C. Holcomb, that the foregoing named be declared
duly elected Aldermen for their respective Wards. Motion carried.
A motion was made by J. O. Blakeney, seconded by R. B. Bassel,
that the election of Chas. Ross as Fire Chief be accepted and Ap-
proved. Motion carried.
An ordinance in regard to occupation taxes was read, and
after discussion, a motion was made by C. L. Cromwell, seconded
by J. 0. Blakeney, that said ordinance be passed as read. Vote
was had as follows: 8 yeas. No noes.
Ala ordinance in regard to license for Itinerant Merchants,
Peddlers, vendors of all kinds, was read, after which motion was
made by C. L. Cromwell, seconded by J. 0. Blakeney, that such +�
ordinance be.passed as read. Vote was had as follows: 8 yeas, i
No noes. (Ordinances attached to these minutes).
A motion was made by C. L. Cromwell, seconded by Geo. Minter,
that all employees of the City be retained to their respective
positions. Motion carried.
A motion was made by C. L. Cromwell, seconded by R. B. Bassel,
that the City Council employ one additional policeman. The motion
carried. After several applications were read, -Frank Henson was
selected for place No. 2, on the police force. A motion was made
by H. C. Martin, seconded by C. L. Cromwell; that W. H. Keith and
Frank Henson be paid a salary of $80.00 per month each. Motion
carried.
Bills and accounts were read, and on motion by Geo. Minter,
seconded by R. B. Bassel, were allowed and ordered paid. The
Council then stood adjourned in an adjourned regular meeting, ob-
ject to the Mayor's call.
